Honest to God, Rich.....Since there is about as much going on in the Speedster world right now as there is on Fox News (read that, just about nothing), YOU are BIG NEWS and you can be sure that, come Sunday night, everyone on here will be tuned in to this thread 24 hours a day for the next week Just to see if you make it.

If Cory could do a loop through the midwest in his Ghia and make it, we all think you can, too (at the very least, I do).

Good luck, God Speed and check in (or call a few of us on the phone) so we'll all know how you're doin.

Deja Vu of Jim Ward all over again, here.....

That's all well and good, Ron, IF I had a Mac Book Pro. If I had my drothers, I drag my iMac along which at least I somewhat understand. Now I'm on a learning curve for a touch screen iPad which doesn't want to cooperate with my old brain. The iPad app for Google Maps already has me stumped, it's ten times more challenging than the plain old Google Maps on my iMac.

Luckily I went old school a couple of days ago, printed all the maps and directions I had from a route I created on my Google Maps...SOMETIMES, @#&* an old road atlas would be just a heck of a lot easier. I don't want to live in the future anymore!

Plus, now I have even another e-mail address! Jeeeez, put me on a plane and just let me get lost, it'll be more fun that way!    iLost

That was quite a journey, and many of us were following him all along the way.  Jim took advantage of the short time he had and really taught us all about living life the best you can.

I'll jump on Gordon's self hijack while we're waiting on reports from Rich.

I never got to meet Jim and he was the inspiration for doing long trips in a Speedster. I went back and read every one of his posts from long ago and he was quite a man.  He was close bu too being on Oklahoma City and if I had gotten into this hobby sooner we would have been friends, I know.  His "Ruby" was the most gorgeous Speedster replica ever made and I lust for it even today.

Back to the saga of Rich and when will he make his first report?

Shapiro's (Wards )speedster is one of the nicest I have ever seen.  I have been trying to find the marchal fog light grills for some time and can't find em....  That car is fabulous and I love that headlight grill look....   I did not know Jim and I have never met Al, but I believe when I went to Carlisle a few years ago that Ruby was there and the paint was absolutely striking....  I believe at that time Jim owned it... It was 2009....

Crosby-those wheels you inquired about might be Alex Bivens' wheels. Mr. Bivens passed away last year; from the Porsche Registry it is indicated that he had worked with Boyd Coddington to scan the original Porsche wheel design into a Coddington CNC program. I snooped around and came up with this link. You'll have to take it to the next level. You have good taste in wheels.

Terry, thanks for the information, I'd still be looking for that darn engine..

For those of you who haven't met Rich, he's great guy and very easy going.

In regard to his VW Bug, it had good brake shoes, the front end has been rebuilt and all moving joints were vey tight, the engine leaks a tiny bit of oil from the breather and maybe a drop from the oil pump, tires were checked, oil level, lights, valves didn't need adjusting, the carburetor was working great as was the engine but the fan belt was a bit loose and the removal of 2 shims solved that problem,  etc,etc etc.   The only problem is the hot wire to the brake light pressure switch on the master cylinder had no power.   In the photo above, I'm stringing a new wire to the brake light switch.  Brake lights now work.

Rich arrived at my place about 9:15AM and left at 11:30AM.

He should have arrived in Kingman AZ around 6:30 PM.      Nice little car considering it's 44 years old.
