I have my old rusty 356 up on The Samba for sale, but I changed the ad a bit to include selling just the VW pan alone in case nobody wants to deal with the body issues.

The pan is a shortened '68 VW Beetle, clean, pretty nice. It has a brand new swingaxle trans in it (I really wanted the look of the original 356) that's a built ProStreet unit. Hardened keys and shafts, welded gears, four gear spyder set-up super diff, new pucks, custom gear selection and R&P, a real highway geared trans, not just the current "Freeway Flyer" that's sold these days, heavy duty side covers, short axles and tubes for fitting big wheels/tires under the fenders. New rear drum brakes and brake lines and bearings and such.

The front is Ghia. New CB Performance forged drop spindles, new calipers, new rotors (little surface rust from sitting, no biggie), new bearings and seals, new KYB shocks, new TRW steering box, new red urethane steering coupler in case you wanna KILL yourself-but I have a new German one to go with it, new braided front brake lines, new master cylinder.

I have an early VW steering shaft and column and blinker assembly to go with it. It's got decent replica Empi eight spokes on it and has a little VW single port engine that's mounted to it as well. Runs well enough to light up the tires, but nothing special at all.

I listed it all for $2,000. If anyone comes up for it and will give me thirteen minutes with a reciprocating saw, I'll chop the body free and have them give a hand with the "Lift and separate."

DO you think that the $2,000 is a good price or is it too high for what's there. I REALLY don't know. It's pretty much everything that you'd wanna buy anyway, all in one package, but the price might be off, you know?

Any opinions would be REAYY appreciated.

Thanks !

Having recently built a Speedster chassis to very similar specs, you are well under the cost of my build. It remains to be seen as to any party coughing up the $$$ today though. I have a number of things for sale that I don't want to ship, such as a repanned and powder coated 1968 chassis for $100, a set of new 4 wide 5 minilites with new tires for $250...they have been for sale locally for 90+/- days and not even an offer....

My point? Not much money around here (Houston) in the VW community.... I gave away a truckload of other parts including a bus transmission newly rebuilt, a new complete set of 36hp tins, a stock front BJ end, a full set of spindles, brakes/backing plates etc., etc. just to get all the stuff out of my way.

Pretty sad, but the economy is getting much better, employement is on the rise, new house sales are up, the auto industry is thriving, and I love all politicians of all creeds....opps, I was looking at my local paper upside down....(:>(
Bob, they look like this. They are not actual Minilites as you can note from the photos. The tires are 205's front and rear. They will not clear sufficently a stock body Speedster. There is no more than 1/8" clearance inside the wheel wells and that is after doing substantial work on the inside body supports and side panels in the engine bay (moved them in by 3/4" on each side)as well as repositioning the body on the subframe and a bunch of messing about to get them to fit. They don't fit.....

The rims and tires are now on consignment with KAR Parts VW in Houston. I don't know how much he is asking for them and personally I will not ship them. My comments were not an effort to sell thse on line, but more a statement of the economy around here RE VW parts, which is what TC was asking, condition of the market.....
