I picked up this all original 1970 Karmann Ghia last week in Conn. It is all original except one repaint and a Gene Berg shifter which really tightens up the shift pattern.  72000 miles,no rust,  irs, front disc brakes and an excellent running single port engine. I drove it home 150 miles and it ran great. Can I make it into a dual port with new jugs and heads?

Here are some pictures:

My advice is just to drive it. If you really need more power build another motor and swap it. That way it'll stay original.

A friend of mine just did that with a 356B coupe. Original motor is pulled out and pushrods loosened for long-term storage and numbers-matching engine is saved. He's driving it now with a 912 motor he rebuilt. I helped him put the motor back in and tune it.

+1 to what everyone is saying. Enjoy the reliability. If you want to make a little more power, get some single port Kadrons.

My first car was a 71 Ghia. It was identical to yours. I brown interior and the fake wood dash. Fun little car. I remember the day I got it. I waxed it under the street light out in front of our house. Historians say that is when my maddness began.
