as an aside, Worcester, Massachusetts hosts the New England Street Rod Nationals every July 4th. Typically, they get several thousand street rods there for a 4 - 5 day weekend (the burn-outs in a tunnel under Main Street have to be seen to be believed!)

The Worcester cops really get in to this hot rod thing, and have even put together their own "Street Rod" to take part in the "Crusin nights" - a 1970 Camaro, blown 400, BIG slicks and rumpy exhaust, all decked out in the usual black and white of the other Worcester cruisers, AND the blue light bar on the roof! They put a couple of uniformed officers in it to "patrol" the crusin circuit (looks like "American Grafitti" down there).

These guys have fun in their work!

A few years ago the California Highway Patrol had some Z-28 Camaros (all properly painted like a black-and-white CHP car) they were using to patrol the freeways. It's unnerving going 75 mph on the Ventura Freeway and having a CHP in a hot Camaro pull up next to you...then, floor it and blow on by. They must of had fun in those cars. Maybe too much, since you don't see the CHP Camaros anymore.
When BMW began manufacturing in South Carolina a few years back, they gave an M5 to the Highway Patrol. At first, the Patrol refused the gift, then after driving it they decided to keep it! The BMW was all decked out with official paint, lights, etc., but it would have made a much better stealth car.
