Hi guys

I have been reviewing the forum and it seems like Classic Motor has been out of business since 1994, 17 yrs ago. can it be possible that this car was manufactured later, the seller states the car has 1500 miles, thats hard to believe for a car thats been manufactured at best 17 yrs ago???

Does the 1600 cc engine provide sufficient speed to enjoy the car or is the engine slow?

1956 Porsche replica built by Classic Motor Carriage, Miami FL. and the custom coachwork by Reutter. Only 1,485 actual miles! Proffessionaly built 1600 cc engine with dual weber carbs.
Matching convertible top with rear window.

i cant seem to attach pictures, your comments and assitance are recommended.

thank you

adam

I would run in the other direction.
Custom coachwork on a replica was not done by Reutter, I can promise you.
That's the tip of the iceberg that will likely sink your wallet.

Check with Troy Sloan for a beautiful, well-sorted used car in California.
He's a member here, and takes in cars that need a second chance. He asks for fair money, but also gives them a pretty comprehensive look-see before releasing them back to the wild.
At least you'll know the car has had its shots.
My 22 year old CMC has zero miles (bought in 1989)! They came in kit form for home builder assembly (although CMC farmed out building for some - many were displayed in airports). CMC/FF still hold record for largest producer of Speedster kits. My guess is of the thousands sold 40% still remain unbuilt as the build process was not that simple (they advertised 40 hours --- should be 400+). So the mold was cast 17+ years ago - you won't have to worry that the fiberglass is cured - it cured years ago so no new waves or shrinkage is going to occur. A dull gel coat finish can be brought back to life too.

Since fiberglass mold was taken from a real Reutter built Speedster - guess you could stretch and say body by Reutter. Ya always need (want) more power - 1600cc will get you started and the Webers can stay as you increase displacement.

If price and build quality is right - buy it and drive it. If I had it to do again - I would have bought a finished running car - drove it and made changes as I went along. My kit was $8k back in '89 plus $1.4k delivery and I still needed a VW chassis - and lots of friends to help work on it!

Adam.
I will have a super wide body for sale in a few weeks, but if you are looking for a regular body, you really need to look on eBay if you have not already done so. Just do a search of eBay motors using the words Porsche Speedster and sort it with the highest price first. You will find several and should be able to pick up a nice one for well under $20K. If you don't see what you want, just be patient and check eBay everyday. Sooner or later one will show up.

Like Cory said, the car does not have "custom coach works by Reutter." You can buy the Reutter badge for about $50. It's also a sign that the seller knows nothing at all about these cars or is a just a BS artist.

Also, the car in the first link you posted was actually for sale on eBay, but it didn't sell and it has not been relisted. The website you found it on just copied it from ebay.

Adam, 20 or even 19 large for an older model standard Speedster is out of line... You can get a brand new turn-key tub for 22K now-a-days... Look in the secondary market, I am talking used market with private seller. DO NOT go to those re-sellers... There just a freaking bookie that charges you a premium because they happen to have a good looking car on their lot, instead of YOU going directly to the Manufacturer. CUT out the middle man and buy new from dealer, or buy used from private party. Remember Troy and these guys will never steer you wrong here... KEEP looking my friend... it took me 18 months to pull the trigger, but when I did I never looked back! .

Still driving same tub today, and lovin it!

Speedster "D" Taking YOUR time!

David the car is with a private party, not a dealer. i am looking for a mechanic in warsaw or fort wayne, indiana, that will do an inspection on it to give me an overall idea of the condition.
if you take a look at ebay, cars.com and other websites, used cars go for between 19-28k in almost a new condition.
the one i am looking at has 1300 miles and asking price is 20k.
i think if i can have an expert take a look at it closely and the car is in good shape, its an ok buy. summer is at the door, i rather not wait till next year for a car, however i see your point, sometimes you are better off waiting for something good than having someone soso right away..
that being said, a good shop in warsaw or nearby can be helpful
