Hello all,

New to the site and currently shopping for a Speedster to be based in Dallas. I've found an eBay listing for a VS Speedster here locally and wanted to ask for input on good pre-buy questions to ask the seller (a dealer- not an individual). Additionally, would appreciate any guidance on who to task with a pre-buy (background, skill-set with VW air-cooled, etc)

thanks in advance for your help.

Best,

todd

You probably won't get much out of a dealer but you are looking for detailed engine build specs starting with displacement and compression ratio then list of parts used or at least the engine builder.  VS is sometimes of help but believe they record builds by the original buyer name and not VIN.  Talking to original owner would point out any issues perhaps. How its title can affect resale down the road too.

Hi Todd.

What specifically are you looking for color wise and body, engine and price?  I have a cream/tan regular body Vintage with only 800 miles since being built and it's nearly ready to go on eBay.  Essentially a new car and it's beautiful!

These are pictures before I put my touches on it.  Including nipple hubs with Porsche crest, badgeing, stone guards and more.

Todd - considering your pre-buy questions, I strongly recommend (as many others on this site would) considering any of the Speedsters that Troy has refurbished. He has an excellent eye for detail and transforming a marginal car into a show winner.

Unless you want a project car thats probably overpriced, you'd be ahead of the game (time & money) by checking out whatever car Troy has on his 'finished' list!

+1 to what Jim has said. You'll get a better car, with a solid history, from an honest seller.

Thanks for the feedback and advice gang. I've actually purchased the SpeedsterTroy  recommended and hope to have it at my doorstep early next week. I'm thrilled.

I will ill say that Troy has been as helpful and professional as anyone I've dealt with purchasing just about anything.

Glad to be here!  I'll post pics when she arrives.

Best regards,

todd
