I'm new to Speedster replicas and thinking about buying one.

I've been told this car may be coming up for sale in June.

It has a 1915cc dual carb engine and shows approximately 18,000 miles on the odometer.

Two Questions:  (1) Is 18,000 miles considered too high and (2) can anyone tell me why the bolts on the wheels would be so long?

Thank you.

Someone else will know about the long wheel bolts.

I don't think the mileage is much of a consideration but the overall condition of the car is. How well was it maintained? What type of transmission does it have....stock or a beefed up Freeway Flyer ? Does the car have disc brakes ? Is it set up like a daily driver or is it a show type car ? What type of driving do you intend to do with it?  Who built the car and when was it built ? How about the price ? Does it start, run and drive nicely? Etc....

Good looking outlaw. Looks like a Vintage build. The long studs are to give it more of a "race car" look. 18,000 miles means the owner actually drove it. I have 58,000 "not so trouble-free" miles on mine.

Do some reading here and get familiar with the cars. Maybe a local member could spend some time discussing the in and outs of ownership. These cars require a little love and attention.

Hi Cliff---I will be in Charlotte for 4 days after the Carlisle event staying with relatives on the trip back home to Hot Springs, AR.  I'll be driving my Vintage Speedster and you are welcome to see and drive it if you would like.

18,000 miles is nothing.  I have 45,000 on mine and as you read, Terry Nuchols has almost 60k on his. Our Jim Ignacio has put far more miles on Speedsters than anyone else in the group---I'm pretty sure about that but open to correction.

Also you may want to consider joining us for the Carlisle event---you can see cars from all the mfg plus be welcome by everyone there.  Look for the Carlisle event under "Events."

I grew up in Charlotte.  (sorta)    ----Jack Crosby

David, Terry and Jack,

My thanks to each of you for the great advice.

Jack, the owner of the Outlaw has not made up his mind whether to sell it (he owns a good number of other cars) but he is definitely thinking about letting it go and hopefully will give me his decision by June.   In the meantime I'll send you a PM with my telephone number and when you are in Charlotte please let me know and I'll treat you to a terrific lunch.

Kind regards,

Cliff

LOL.  You guys have short memory spans.  This is a car that I restored and sold in 2012 and posted about ad nauseam on the SOC.  It was sold to a guy on the East Coast who rents Speedsters for weekend trips around the Martha's Vineyard area.

It's been modified slightly, Carrera badges on fenders and hood handle have been removed, but it's the same car.

By the way, I'm working on another silver one right now.  Very similar, but nicer with a bigger engine too.

Here is a link to my original pictures and my video.  Photos.

The long wheel studs are because he purchased the long threaded studs. When I first converted mine I started out with that same setup. The ones with the Bullet Nose and thread/pitch we need come in two sizes: long and very long.  They just happened to be made for BMW wheels which are very thick. And the race / track studs are longer so it's easier to mount the wheels and lugs at the track. When you mount a thin steel wheel with them they look really long.

I returned the long bullets and went with a shorter version with a  step shoulder/chamfered edge. Because my wheels are 5/8" thick the studs don't look as long.
