Great color- stone gray? Not able to get a clear motor image, what is mounted on the center of the fan shroud?

Yes, stone gray.  Not sure what that is.  I'm guessing its a support for the carb linkage.  Maybe someone else can verify...

It looks like the center support for Kadron linkage.  Are those dual Kads?

And I love the color!!  But, I'm a little biased.

Having just removed that part I con attest to and affirm that it is in fact the support for the throttle linkage used with the Kadron/Solex Carburetors.

Alan,

Not sure what paint manufacturer Kirk uses, but the original Stone Grey is listed by Porsche in 1957 as an alternative color: code 5710.  It was only listed that one model year.  Modern manufacturers, like PPG, have their own in-house code for that color.  It's also an available color from IM, which is where SAS allegedly got the color code for my car.

I spent much time trying to find a paint formula for "Porsche 5710 Stone Grey".  It seems to be a closely guarded secret!  I purchased a paint sample from Willhoit, but he would not share the paint formula.  I finally found someone from BASF (current owner of Glasurit paint, the original Porsche brand) that was willing to help.  However, my painter was not familiar with BASF paint and preferred a PPG product.  Also, I originally wanted a single stage paint, but ended up going with a BC/CC due to my painter's preference.  He does excellent work and was willing to work with me on this project (I can be difficult), so I followed his suggestions.  We finally arrived at a formula because his father is a field engineer for a local PPG supplier and spent several hours in their lab color matching the Willhoit sample.

Here are pictures of the two sample cards, my formula is on the left in both pictures.  The cards are very similar in all lights, however there is a difference in the picture because the two cards are not in the same exact plane.  Stone Grey looks very different at various angles and in different light.

Thanks Jim, considering stone grey for a semi outlaw but still undecided ...

*cough* slate gray *chough*

I love slate grey in off direct sun, at night, and inside but sometimes in direct sun it looks like mud drying.  Just my opinion and no offense to anyome with that color.
