Hello, just purchased an stunning CMC built Silver with Red interior 356 speedster widebody. Glad to join you all here from South Floirda. I was wondering, could find out more about the super strong gas smell in our garage. I have found it coming from what appear to be an overflow tube off the gas tank. Have to plug it when not driving. Anybody know what this hose is for and why it is letting the aweful gas fumes out. Can this be fixed?

Peace;

Lucky

Can it be fixed?

Sure!

It's not an overflow tube. It is the vent for your gas tank. It should be a small (1/4" or less) tube just below the gas filler cap.

To "fix" it, you'll need to run a tube (flexible vinyl or rubber hose) from that vent tube away from the tank such that it vents in the area behind the passenger wheel and below the tank.

But wait! There's more!! You'll also need a one-way valve to prevent any liquid fuel from getting out - it should allow air in to the tank, but not out, ok?

NAPA has those valves (some are also used on regular American car engines). You can do a search on here for gas tank vents and someone has mentioned in past posts what those valves are (maybe even part numbers). Very easy to install and then forgetabout'em.

Good luck!
