This is my first post. I have been looking into purchasing a Speedster. I found one I liked at a collector car dealer in Pleasanton, CA. I will be in the area next week to look at it. The seller says it was made by Autospeed Motorcars, but I can find nothing about them. The Speedster looks like it could be a JPS, judging by the engine lid buttons instead of rubber molding around the perimeter of the lid opening. It doesn't have a few of things that I would add, Euro bumper guards, "Porsche" emblem on engine lid, headlight wire stoneguards and a rear luggage rack.

Has anyone added the bumper guards later and are they fairly easy to install?  Does anyone sell the USA style bumper guards which have the circular bar that goes across the length of the bumper? Also are the "Porsche" name emblem a peel and stick type or do you have to drill holes and attach? I have many more questions but I will ask those later. Thanks

Hello Steve.  Welcome to the madness.

If you have not seen my silver with black interior Vintage Speedster that will be going on eBay this week, take a look in the Classified fourm.

It has a little under 9,700 miles on it and is registered as a 64 VW and has tags that are good until August of 2013. There was no documentation with the car, but the previous owner was told by the original owner that it has a 1915cc, but there is no way to tell for sure without taking the engine apart. It has dual carbs with the upgraded linkage, it starts right up, runs fine and feels like it could be a 1915, but it could also be a 1776; there's just no way to tell for sure. It has a "Freeway Flyer" transmission, coco mats, carpeted trunk and the standard badging. The gauges, signals and lights all work fine and the interior, top and tonneau are in like new condition. It also has a set of my "Crusin" windows and headlight grills.
I can tell from the underside that it's never been driven in the rain and the paint is in beautiful shape, with just a couple of typical small stone chips on the front. The chrome is in great shape too and it also has nipple hubs, the cool kind, not the wanna be flat hubs like the Pleasanton car with the red interior has.

It has Alante vinyl, which is nearly impossible to tell from real leather and the Buy It Now price on eBay will probably be $21,000, but $20,750 will get it.
Here are links to several of the other Speedsters I've owned and sold.

Easy to add over-riders. A few cars have the American over-riders. Think IM does them on new cars.  It's a custom install - not easy add on kit.  The emblems/scripts do have mounting pins - which generally are too short to go thru the thick fiberglass so the mounting nuts could work.  Can drill holes and super glue/epoxy/silicon them in.  Or you could cut off tabs (or buy used ones with a broken tab or two) and mount with 3M double sided auto trim mounting tape.

I recommend buying from SOC member or straight from source - IM/VS/JPS/Beck - not from a reseller.
