Hi there,

Just checking in and saying hi, I don't have a speedster but I've always thought it was one of the most stunning shapes I'd ever seen.

Much as I'd love an original, I'm not ashamed to say the cost is too high an I've never really been a fan of the air cooled engine sound (don't chase me off!).

So I did have a question, who is making the good quality speedsters with Subaru power? Is the Beck Speedster car a good product?

Thanks for your welcome :)

Bob, it's quite the opposite - the movement is TO the Subaru engines, not away. The 2.5 is probably the most used today, but I'd bet that interest in the newer 2.0 litre engine will grow as it's availability grows. Now they're not easy to find since only recently introduced into the Forrester and this year into some Impreza models.

The thing is that although smaller the 2.0 is a highly evolved engine that has potential to make good HP while achieving unusually (for Subaru) efficientcy and can ahieve substantially higher fuel milage figures along with the higher output that will come with aftermarket developments. Also, it's a narrower engine and the resultant overall smaller size makes for a cleaner easier installation into our cars.

Some say that the watercooled Subie engines are the future; replacing the use of VW aircooled versions entirely in the forseeable future.
