Hi folks

My first day on the forum. I bought my dream car a few years back (air cooled 911) and it was everything I'd imagined it would be. The low original miles kept it out of the shop for a few years but when I did start to have to spend money it, it added up quick! A combination of that, slowing down a bit in my outlook generally, and that I've always thought the 356s are the most beautiful cars ever built...lead me here. Sold the Porsche and have now committed to acquiring a 356 replica. im just starting my research but I'm hoping I can do my own maintenance? No on board computers? That would be nice! Simplicity...

You are correct Shadow. Part of my reason to buy one of these cars, other than wanting one for a good many years, is that most systems are mechanical in nature and can be diagnosed by oneself or certainly with the gracious help of folks on this forum. I'm no mechanic but have done everything so far myself with a little patience and persistence and help from these good folks. That and the parts are very reasonable. I know from what you speak regarding Porsche parts and service.  I had a 1966 912 I bought in 2001 I think. Subsequent to this I got divorced and sold the car as time and money were at a premium.  When my son began to drive he asked if we could maybe buy it back from the buyer I knew.  With $300 - 400 for the leather embossed hockey puck that goes in the middle of the steering wheel I had to say no. Too bad.  These can be lots of fun and simple/understandable.  Good luck in your search and stop back with questions.

Frank

Thanks for the feedback Frank. Yours look beautiful! original? Replica? which manufacturer? I've been reading a bit about Intermecannica who are in my back yard. Sounds like they have a great reputation for quality and hold their value well....I suppose that's true of quality in general! I wont buy new and dont want a project either. I'll research for awhile and keep my eyes open. Ill probably get one in the spring. I need to finish up my Jeep CJ project first to make some room too.

Hi Bob,

I would be interested in being put in touch with the potential seller

Can you assist!?

I think I can.

I'll send you a personal email.  Check the Dialog box in the upper right hand corner of this page.  If it's red, that means I have PM'd you.

Shadow, Bob has a very nice IM.  Well worth a very close look, and he's a 'straight-up' guy.

p.s.  Hey Bob, does this put me in your good books, so I can test drive your 911 IM?

Wait, forget what I said.  I don't want to drive your new IM.  If I did I'd want one and that would be like going on a date with a super model, knowing I could never get to first base with her.

First base?  What about just getting up to bat...
