Just joined the forum. I'm from No. Co and just purchased a CMC 356 'widebody' out of CA. I'm a gearhead and own a '55 Chevy 'old school' hot rod, a '33 Ford Vicky, and a '65 Cobra 289 FIA and a '56 F-100.

I've always wanted a Speedster and found the right one for me. From lurking seems there are some that do not like the widebodies oh well!

Thought this forum would help in learning some things. The car I purchased is being shipped now and I'm told It should be here in about 5 days. I was out in CA and looked at a couple of Speedsters in the area and this one just tripped my 'go for it' button. Has a near new(1200mi) 1900 cc engine, sits on a rust free '68 pan, has adjustable front and rear suspension, new top/side curtains(never been on the car). The P.O. is the second owner and the car only has a little over 10,000 miles since it was built by a replica builder in '84. Came with a lot of paperwork w/build sheets etc. The P.O. pretty much neglected the car after the first engine went bad and it sat in his garage covered for nearly 6 years before he had the current engine built. Price was right so I bought it.

Hoping to learn some things about the replica Speedsters and VW power trains. Haven't messed with VW's since a built a Manx way back when and then a Baja Bug pre-runner in the mid 80's.

Hey G.R.! I agree with Sassy. (I love the look of the narrow body cars), but, I also have a " CMC Speedster C" wide body with 7" & 8" Porsche Fuchs wheels that fit inside the wheel openings with no clearance issues whatsoever. This car is aggressively lowered as well. There are some advantages to having a wide body; better handling/no clearance issues . Also, after reading about Intermeccanica and Frank Reisner's involvement originally in these cars before CMC bought them I feel no shame in owning one. You have lots of thumbs-up, wide grin driving ahead of you like rest of us speedster owners.

Thanks for the Welcome! and the kudos on the rides. Terry, Yup from Greeley,CO...there is not another Speedster around this area, at least that I've seen.

Glad to see some of you like Cobras...my favorite car in my stable...loud, extremely fast w/the 347stroker and Weber induction and top-loader, I've owned it now for about 15 years, built from a former project car. Used to open track and vintage race it but at 68 years old do not feel comfortable racing it anymore, reactions are slowing down...
