I got my car a month ago. It was built in 1982 and never registered or driven. Built on a 1970 pan with new everything, brakes, stock engine, tranny...everything. After sitting 32 years it needs a little love. I replaced the gas tank and rubber lines, cleaned the carb up , replaced the battery and started her up. It runs GREAT but gutless which I expected. My biggest challenge has been that I can't get the passenger door to open. The former owner/builder said it worked fine 32 years ago ;-). Also all the chrome on the exterior is pretty pitted and hubcaps pealing badly. What is the best source for the chrome trim, horn grills etc and are the headlight rings VW parts? Thanks for any and all help. I am located near Fresno Ca and look forward to meeting Troy Sloan. BTW I am 6'4" and the roll bar had to go.

Welcome to The Madness, Steve! I like the bad-ass look of your car, especially with the chrome hubcaps set in the black deep-dish wheels.
Troy is a great guy (and good friend) will certainly be a GREAT source of info for you! Best of luck with your project!
If the chrome on hub caps is peeling - and you like the low nipple look get some Porsche 914 hub caps (assume 4 lug) and drill them for the crests (apply a little silicon on reverse to keep from rattling). New CHINA/TAIWAN chrome is crap and has to be frequently waxed to avoid rust. I prefer the double D tall nipple caps - CIP has them with EMPI crests for like $215 each - swap out the EMPI crests (send them to me!) and use the PORSCHE ones.
Love those widened steel wheels! Could just run chrome acorn lug nuts for a hot rod look.

Heat will cause them to blow out - junk old tires older than 10 years - caution driving on tires more than 8 years old.

My pick would be chrome with crests. It would really accent the deep dish wheels. Maybe even chrome trim rings added? I love that old school look!

Yes. But the more I look at your set-up, I think my choice would be just the deep dish black wheels with chrome caps/crest! It just looks bad-ass!

Part of me wonders how it would look with the black deep dish wheels with the drum skins and no caps?
Ted

I think they would look pretty good Ted. Something on your mind??
Ted - check your 'Dialogs' tab!
Some have fixed with threaded rod with adjustable ends too. It can be easily done with engine in - just remove wheel. If builder followed build manual there is a fiberglassed in piece above and below the exhaust. If they are fiberglassed in they may have to cut loose, sag fixed with metal and them refiberglassed back in.
