It's popped up quietly here and there on a couple of threads, but I thought I'd officially announce the almost-completion of the latest SAS beauty. Three shots below in various stages of goodness. First is from when the carpeting was just going in-- ain't that a lovely square transmission tunnel? Second is very recent-- the top's up and I just need a hood & hubcaps. Third is dash almost done-- still need to cover that "eyebrow" over the instruments and drop in the coco mats.

It's running strong and just about ready to go. Mid-engine 2.5L Subaru motor, 5-speed tranny, and it looks like the truck is picking it up next week! Yippee! Long trip from Tennessee to California...

Cory, copy away! These photos that Steve sent me were taken with a flash, and the color appears much lighter than in real life-- much more "baby blue". In person, the color is darker and more towards gray. When it arrives safe & sound, I'll shoot some non-flash photos and post them. There's a shot below that I took on a previous visit to Knoxville that gives a pretty good idea.

TeamEvil,

Oh my God! What have I done? What kind of piece of crap car have I bought? If those are muffler clamps I'll slit my wrists!

I reviewed all my photos and don't have a closer shot. But you can bet I'll launch a full investigation into "Clamp-Gate" and report back to you. If they are, indeed, muffler clamps, I'll post photos of the car after I've had it compacted into a cube of scrap.
But the polished 356 clamps are works of art and available.

And they're SO BEAUTIFUL ! ! ! ! As an alternative, a pair of Oval Window Beetle steering column clamps and rubber isolators.

You ALL know that I'm an interior fiend and detail nazi. Honestly, if I had muffler clamps holding up my steering column it would drive me nuts.
I don't even like the way that they look on MUFFLERS, much prefer flanges on an exhaust or header system.

It's ALL about the details. All piled up, one on top of another, until . . . . perfection.

Really, truly.

Just my opinion, got one, same as you do. Some folks LOVE muffler clamps holdin' up their steering columns, some folks . . . not so much.
Terry,

Regarding the exhaust system, SAS vehicles are emissions compliant in all 50 states (even ours). Mine will be registered in California as a new, 2008 vehicle, despite the donor drivetrain, and cannot circumvent the emissions equipment. As a result, SAS does a custom header design that incorportates a single catalytic converter (consistent with the donor vehicle). Headers ultimately lead to the muffler (photo below) for a fairly correct, period looking exhaust. The second shot was taken right after muffler was installed, before bumper.

The car is beautiful, muffler clamp and all!
I'm with TC on this one. Being an interior freak myself I'll be putting an original on my car if it'll fit or I'll make one out of aluminum stock. Maybe down the road you can put one on for that personal touch.
I gotta tell you though Paul, I LOVE your sarcastic sense of humor! Right down my alley.
You too TC (i.e. your pm 'It's about F'n time'). : )
The Meissen Blue Speedie was picked up today from Specialty Auto Sports in Knoxville and begins its trip to California. Driver tells me it'll be mid-late next week when it arrives.

Here's a finished car photo. Tried to upload others and failed. Anybody know why the usual upload process wasn't working for me? Clicked the button and it froze up. Ended up with a file w/ no thumbnail in my folder that I can't bring into the forum.

Anyway...
