"very hard to obtain Porsche Crested hubcaps"

Without the genuine Porsche crests evidently. Those are the crappy caps that rust in the mail on their way to your door. The crests are the crumby ones without the "PORSCHE" lettering at the top.

That BugCity guy is just a big ol' gyp who sells junk. Stay away ! !

Nobody! Seriously, none of the new nipple caps for the four lugs are worth the money. They ALL need re-chroming from the outset, and nearly all will dent from just using the heal of your hand to get them onto the wheel. The best bet is to locate and older pair (at least eight to ten years old) and have them re-chomed. The metal will be a little heavier and the new chrome will be WAY better than what they were shipped with.

Luck!

I have 17 year old TAIWAN replica Nipple hubcaps from JC Whitney - they said PORSCHE back then. Chrome on them is poor too as is steel thickness (see photo below). Even keeping wax on them they rust in the garage! I bought Porsche 914 caps and moved the crests over to them. The 914 are either stainless steel or high quality chrome. Mine are from a '72 914 and are still in great shape.
