Finally got my car on the road the other day....OK, just down the street for a shakedown, but it felt good anyways. For some reason it won't idle, and I think I may have a vacuum leak but would like to get some opinions. Here are some facts: Bone stock 1600 with a pict34, monza exhaust, pertronix ignition, blue coil. New plugs, cap, wires, rotors, rebuilt carb, fuel lines, tank, filter, etc. Starts right up and idles high well with the choke. As the choke eases off it flutters downs and dies. It will start right back up if I put the choke back on (close butterfly and kick throttle up), but then dies right down. I have the small screw adjusted out 2.5 turns and have fiddled with the large screw until my wrist hurts. I can keep it running nice and smooth by manually manipulating the choke butterfly (closing it almost all the way). As soon as I let it go, and it pops up vertical, the engine sputters and dies. Oh yeah, new intake boots and clamps. I pulled the idle jet and made sure it was cleaned, and have checked and tried 3 idle solenoids.
I'm thinking vacuum leak at the intake manifold since when I restrict the air flow it runs great, and when I don't it must lean out and die? I could use the carb cleaner at the intake to confirm but I need to get the part tomorrow during work and I can't check it before that. Thoughts anyone?
