My car had a leaking sending unit.  Henry diagnosed it as a bad gasket or bad nylon washer behind the nut.  I took it in for service today and the mechanic replaced the entire sending unit with the German VDO OEM unit because they didn't have the gasket by itself.  The original was either Brazil or VW Canada.  The end result is that my gas needle is not bouncing anymore, is this something I should be concerned about?  I know it's pretty standard to have the needle bounce and I want to make sure that I'm not going to be running into any new problems.  Thanks.

Marty, I made the mistake of having my old 914 gauges refurbished at North Hollywood.  The gauges look great, but the tach is off 250 rpm and my oil temperature gauge is off 30 degrees and the gauge lighting is so poor I can't read a thing while driving at night. I should have gone with new gauges.

is it just a simple switch the wires on the sender?

my gauge bounces all over the place (distracting)

plus my tank is too small / engine too big.  i'm filling up every 110kms

thank you for letting me rant.

You've got the wrong sender for your gauge. Your sender could be 0-30 ohm (empty-full), 10-70, 73-10, 0-90, 90-0, 10-180, 240-33, etc. Need to find out what your gauge needs and match it.

Swapping wires will do nothing different.

Ron-

Send 'em back this winter. Harmut should make it right.
