Carb bodies are usualy aluminum or "potmetal"....Neither is compatable with acidic or alkaline cleaning agents....There are parts cleaning solvents available that will work, but they are pricey....
I use a 50/50 mix of Simple Green and water....It will cut grease and oil well, and will loosen up mild corrosion.....Simple Green is based on "turpienes" (sp?).AKA turpentine....A gallon of it costs about $8.00. Hope this helps
There's a product called "Krud Kutter" which is available at most paint stores. It's available in spray bottle or 1 gallon bottles. http://www.krudkutter.com/ Pretty good stuff.
