I recently 'reinstalled' my CB engine and notice that the temperature gauge needle was slowly moving to the 'hot section', and now it's 'glued to the right. How do I trace the problem? ALSO, I've replaced the outside right rear wheel seal and it continues to seep on to the brake shoes. What am I doing wrong/??

Did you change temp gauge or sender? Did it work before? If it worked fine before, you may just have a bad connection (loose wire).
Where is the sender??? I have an oil pressure switch and a sender for the gauge...I think that's what it's for...
sender/switch. Follow the wires coming off the gauge. Make sure your contacts are clean and tight.
NO Ground = gauge to peg to the right.
Almost sounds like you have the wires to the oil light sender and temp sender reversed/interchanged.
...only if someone changed the labels that I put on the wires before I disconnected them...

Check the ground connection behind the gauge. Try to trace that wire to the other end and make sure it is clean and tight.
Can you post a picture of your wires at the sender?
Re. the leaky seals: Those have been the bane of my existence. I had to do the one on the right side several times before I got it under control. There's still a little seepage, but not enough to foul the brakes shoes like before. Wish I knew a foolproof way to fix 'em.
The 67 and up bearing covers were designed to let lube from a leaking seal run out thru a hole in the backing plate so the oil wouldn't foul the brake shoes. When I took my brakes off to ship the transaxle I found one of my backing plates was from an earlier car and the hole wasn't drilled. So I drilled using the gasket as a template. Look at the back of your brakes and see if you can see a 3/16" hole (OK, 4.5mm) right next to the bottom of the axle tube where it bolts to the brake backing plate. You can get a seal kit from Anthony here on the site and Google an image of the beetle rear axle bearings. It will show exactly how to put it together. You have to do it the way it is pictured. You also need to find out if you have swing axle or IRS and short or long axle to get the right picture and parts. Also Google axle seals on the Samba, there are a lot of guys on there who have posted instructions on how to fix the seals.

Those drains work fine if the leak is relatively small, but it's possible to "over leak". Ask me how I know.
EXCELLENT information, thanks.
@Meade, Any luck with the gauge?
...haven't had a chance to look at it as Iam too involved in getting my Green Car to run. Leon helped me out a couple of times and I'm too embarassed to ask him to come back over again. I drove it to church this morning and it backfired and bucked would hardly accelerate. so, i changed jets from .60 to .55, set the timing to 27, checked the valves, and readjusted and synced the carbs...again. It idles great but, technically speaking, it don't run fer crap.I bought nome new ethanol-proof fuel lines and I'll probably take them off and put on the old ones....anythingworths a try.
