.............and this is it. I love Photoshop.

Hi All............I live in Toronto and would love to own a Speedster. I come very much from a background including daily driven hot-rods, custom VW's (back in the late 70's, early 80's) and I have built and modified cars all my driving life, plus been a mechanic professionally.

Always loved Porsches. For years I've lusted after the 718RSK, but gradually I've come to appreciate more and more 550 Spyders and all types of 356's.

My past motoring experiences and present interests lead me to Porsche Outlaws. Just Love what Magnus Walker does with 911's and the Emory cars are superb...........but not in my bank-balance area. Same with Singer 911's..........pieces of jewelry, but even if I could afford one, I would be afraid to drive it.

I used to ride bikes, plus crew for a drag bike...........I guess I'm really looking for a 4 wheeled motorbike. Like Magnus Walker and Rob Dickinson of Singer, I'm British by birth and chose to live this side of the pond. It seems us Brits gravitate towards P-cars because of their relative simplicity, but also their ability to be tweaked and modified to be better than original. It's a bit of the old Cafe-Racer Motorcycle vibe I guess and that's what I need in a Speedster Replica plaything. It wouldn't be a daily driver, but it sure wouldn't be a garage queen either.

I'm thinking Intermeccanica because we have all sorts of draconian import laws in Canada on the subject of importing "kit cars" unless they are over 15 years old. If my dream comes to fruition I want an all new build. It makes sense to buy a car built in this country, thereby circumnavigating the "though shalt not" rules.

If I'm hands-up honest and these import difficulties weren't there I would be knocking on Seduction Motorsport's doors because the way they build Spyders is everything I envision. Totally on my page of how I want a car to be built............automotive art.

I'm looking at the following in this build:

Intermeccanica VW suspension based car. Not sure about Speedster screen or "D" type. I would love a rear cabin hard tonneau cover and driver headrest fairing.

Fully height-adjustable suspension, possibly dropped front spindles. Must have "stance"

4 wheel, wide-5 disc brakes.

Coddington Rudge wheels - Polished rim, knock-off spinner with brushed centre.

Black leather interior with red leather piping. Dark grey square-weave carpet. Leather-rimmed steering wheel with brushed spokes.

Straight black paint.

"66" numbers would be stickers in reflective charcoal with red edge. "Hot Stuff" little Devil and Union Jack flag would again be stickers for ease of removal if I wanted to change the character of the car to a less in your face "Hot Rod" vibe.

One unique mod that I've not seen done on one of these cars (please let me see pictures if you know of any)..........vertical mount the Beehive tailights in "frenched" pockets in the body. That's my Hot-Rod and Custom Car roots creeping in...........bit more Outlaw too.

Twin Webered, big capacity VW engine with Black cooling tin with red pinstriping. Brushed Aluminium pulleys, red anodized carb intake stacks.

Now where's that Lottery ticket?

Martin.

Thanks for the welcome Troy. I had the image of my design in my head but wanted to do a rendering to cement the ideas in a digital hard-copy. So I searched the web for photos and discovered this car from Thunder Ranch....it's a half and half composite photo made from 2 video screen shots.....
I haven't found any other photos of the car in my search.

While Googling around I hit on a link to Black Betty and was totally wowed. Beautiful work and very much the "vibe" I'm looking for.

Here is the picture I based my design on:

Looks like you just joined so you probably are not aware of a car similar to what you have in mind.  Here is a link where the owner (Black Betty) has posted some photos.  It's a stunning Outlaw!

Yes Todd, with further thinking, I'm not 100% on that. Really, the car would be used as a 4 wheeled Motorcycle, so is a little more wind protection really needed when a Speedster screen looks just so elegant? I wouldn't use a soft-top, so height and visibility isn't an issue either. I'm thinking central zipped black tonneau cover for those crisp, sunny Fall days.

Yes I know you could and I would very much want you to. Everything I've ever seen come out of your shop wows me because it's so in line with where I'm coming from. In a perfect world, I would want a 550 built to this style, but the problem remains that a complete, brand new "kit" car is not allowed into Canada. Importing seems to be restricted to purchasing a body and chassis and then maybe sourcing everything else this side of the border. It seems that the spirit of NAFTA isn't exactly being followed.

Maybe we could get round the rules by importing one of your cars as "Fine Art"? Then I have to register it as a car............darn, they get you every time.

Well, my "Vision" is currently viewed through extremely strong binoculars. It will be a while yet.

I realize that is an option and I have the ability to put it all together myself. However, as much as I've enjoyed builds in the past at my age now I'm more inclined to work with someone who can build The vision I have in the way I want it built. I'm not really inclined to do all the parts gathering and a bit by bit "car parts" import surely adds to the cost of being able to ship most of the vehicle in one hit.

From every single photograph I've seen the car I want would be built by you (nobody else gets close), but that doesn't get me round the import issue with even a turn-key minus. Technically, you can import a "Car Kit" into Canada if it is just a chassis and body. You cannot import a "Kit Car" into Canada even if it's the same darned chassis and body. Apparently they are that anal about paperwork wording.

Have to look at the logistics when I'm in a position to go further with the idea. Sticking this side of the border and going for an IM Speedster would be mighty fine I'm sure, but an SM Spyder is what really turns my crank.

In the meantime I might need to buy one of your Emergency Brake masterpieces just as an ornament

I did consider the little devil holding a small #6 under his arm, but thought it could attract the wrong kind of attention. The little Harvey Comics "Hot Stuff" Devil is a fairly inoffensive little chap, so I think it keeps the car having attitude with a hint of "cute".

I did also consider having the little devil riding a Mobil horse, but that might offend the Vintage P-car crowd

MT-ED,

I assume those are 'photo shopped' front and rear bumpers?

Subtle & Classy concept to visualize them mounted closer and lower to the body, and formed around the fenders almost to the wheel openings. Much as the first Gmund 356's were.

BTW whose white/red top Intermeccanica roadster is BH Motorcars in San Diego offering for sale? Gotta be an SOCer because it has a 2013 "Speedsters meet Spyders" badge, that Lenny passed out at Carlisle, attached to the fan shroud.

LOL! Yeah (Carl) the bumpers were added by hand. They are a little tighter to the body maybe. More my inaccuracy with the mouse than intentional, but tucking the bumpers in is an old Chip Foose trick with lots of cars and it does work in this design I think.

Troy, yes most Outlaw Speedsters tend to be bumper-less, but I like the streamlining effect in profile that it gives the lower corners. Also, having the body coloured bumpers with a broad chrome strip, tricks the eye into thinking the car is lower than it really is. I'm kind of looking for an "elegance".
Elegant is the way other Kia Soul owners describe my present daily driver.............
