Okay you San Diego, Orange county and LA speedster owners.. how about setting up a speedster run to Warner Springs via route 76 for Saturday May 19th or Sunday May 20th. We could stop for a picnic lunch at a great viewpoint off of East Grade road (depending on number of cars), or have lunch at the golf course cafe in Warner Springs. If we all meet at I-15 and hwy 76 it's about a 100 mile round trip. Longer if we also decide to include a drive up to Palomar Mountain. Speedster driving weather has arrived... lets get going. If these dates don't work let's work out another date.

There is a big VW car show (not speedster, but they are welcome) in Vista on Sunday, may cause some competition.

Normally, I'd be interested, but I'll be leaving on a 1000 mile trip Sunday morning - via F-250, not speedster.

Too bad there isn't a way to sort membership by location, and send everyone in San Diego and Orange County a personal Email? Or a signup list to receive personal Email for local events - aimed at those folks who don't frequent this site with any regularity? Or connect with the 356 Registry? Just thoughts. I wish you well with San Diego Speedsters tour.
Okay,

From the reponse it looks like we have five people that can make the run on Sunday the 20th: Stephan, Jim, David, Esther, and myself. Two are undecided: Vince and Kristian.

David and Gabe are only available for Saturday the 19th.

So it looks like Sunday the 20th is our best bet. All in favor say "Oye".

Now for a meeting time and place. On Hwy 76, just west of I-15 there is a Mobil station with a large parking area next door. We can all meet in the parking area. Now, for a meeting time... how about between 9:30 and 10:00 am. We can take off on the run sometime shortly after 10:00 am. We can make this earlier or later if these times aren't good for everyone.

There's no set route on this, other than east on Hwy 76 towards the Warner Springs area and possibly Palomar Mountain or even Julian. I'm open to anything. We can decide on various destinations when we meet up.

Esther, I think you have the phone numbers of a few speedster owners in north SD county that don't read this forum. Maybe you could call and see if any of them want to join us.

Well looks like I'll have to make a run on Saturday myself!!! My wife wanted to go down there this weekend, but I told her there would be a run with you all next week, so we didn't go, so I'll being taking her to a nice place in Old Town for Mexican food and hand made tortillas on the 19th. TC all.

For the future SOC gang, I will NOT make Sunday Runs, unless they are after 1pm!!!!!

Christ is more important then Runs.

Gabe, I don't think anyone would fault you for your beliefs, but Sundays are really the perfect time for most of us, Saturdays for me and Teri who work all week is when we do our chores that were not able to be done during the week.....Besides it's one of the few times the roads are relatively clear...
I don't mean to start a holy war here, although most wars are religion related, but your post actually sounded hostile in a way or maybe that was just my interpretation.
Vince,

No hostility here! Just can't make Sunday runs prior to 1pm or every other Sunday around 11am. I did read most of the group did say that Saturday would be ok with them also. Anyways it's cool, I'll be going down on Saturday for Mexican food and handmade tortillas.

Can't wait to see your ghia!!!

Take care,
Gabe

Gabe, thats cool, I was curious cause you guys from the O.C. seem to have a pretty good group that run together, and the thread didn't seem to warrent such a bold statement "Christ is more important than runs", I guess I was taken back by that....
I'm a little jealous that I can't join you guys most of the time, but it would take me an extra hour just to get to your location, and telling Teri to get up at 6:00 AM to take a ride would just be loonacy (sp) on my part....
Now if you wanted to head North like thru Malibu canyon sometime, it would be a little easier for me....

I will plan another Lake Arrowhead trip as soon as I know my Ghia can make it....
Okay, so it's all set for next Sunday the 20th. We'll all meet up at the park and ride on hwy 76 just west of I-5. Any votes of either buying lunch out on the road, or taking lunches with us? If we buy our choices would be the cafe at Warner Springs, a diner at Lake Henshaw or, a diner at Santa Ynez (if we go that far out.)
I move that we each pack a picnic lunch so that we can stop along our route for a hassle-free lunch (any scenic turn-outs or shaded areas?). Better photo ops also.

Perhaps stop at the diner in Henshaw (or wherever) for a pit-stop for our right-seaters!

We're good for whatever the group wants to do - we just enjoy getting together for a cruise with our SOC friends! See ya then!

Looks like most everyone is open to just stopping to eat somewhere rather than take a pinic lunch. But I think I might bring some drinks (wine maybe) cheese and crackers for this one great viewpoint stop on East grade road. It's a great backround scene for photos of your speedster. If you guys have room for some folding chairs you might want to bring them along.
Hey Erwin -

Good to hear that you're going to make it this Sunday. The route Bill has planned is a pretty cool winding road through the hills.

Anyway, meet us at the Carl's Jr on the Lake Forest exit off 405 Fwy (as you exit the fwy go straight through the signal and turn left into Carl's Jr parking lot). We'll be there at 08:00am. My cell is (949) 294-6302. See ya there!
