I had to have my transmission repaired. Apparently, I broke the "nose cone"? I asked my cousin what that is... he thought I probably down shifted at too high of RPMs too often. Which I know I did constantly... especially before getting the front disc brakes. Are there other ways that I may have broken the nose cone? I do take it for (aggressive) drives often. Just want to make sure I'm not over "stressing" the car too much.

All opinions and advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yup, there is a "nose cone" on the front of the transmission where the shaft from the shift lever linkage (called a "hockey stick")enters the transmission. It is made of cast aluminum and only has so much strength.

Fast, "power shifts" using too much force on the shift lever, or fast downshifts, also using too much force on the shift lever, can both contribute to over-stressing the nose cone and breaking it.

You need to remove BOTH the engine and transmission to replace the cone. Not a fun job.

Once you get it replaced, if you drive less aggressively the nose cone will last much longer.
