Can a 95 amp alt still work but drain a battery when parked I have replaced All relays and new ignition and light switch. The problem begain with lose of brake lights , horn, and head light all run through the ignition switch and only work with key on I fixed that but still have a slow drain that can kill the battery . Everything works correctly now. but it still drains . radio and clock are unpluged no speaker amps on the car yeat but want to add if i can figure out whats causeing it.

Do you have digital voltmeter with an ammeter? I have one that handles up to 20 amps. Either hook it up and pull fuses one at a time, or pull them out and put them back in one at a time. You'll find your draw. FYI, sometimes a bad voltage regulator can do this.....

But I have been over the car with a meter. and the fuse box several times . I can pull the wires off the alternator and Will check if its internal regular is bad.. My next question is where do you get repair part for a after market 95 amp alternator
A bad starter will drain a battery too!

By the way, is your alternator putting out the right amount of juice?
Barry - FWIW, I recently had similar problems/symptoms with my VS. Bad (dead) battery cell. Replaced battery, problem solved.
Also in a metal car the battery can have a drain/draw THRU it's case to the battery box. This can be verified by removing the battery and checking with a meter from the battery to the battery box.
Its a gel cell and it is old but if i leave the cable off at work it starts fine in the evenings and still charges . I went over the starter have 2 spares if needed. but this is a sneaky one.. i did not get a chance to work on it today, It is charging if you pull the + cable it still runs and the headlights are good and bright.. I have a hard bound Howel Vw manual it has the diagram and in color and list all spade positions numbers.. It all matches
but i do want to disconnect the alt and see if i still have a 11 volt drain at the battery post. thats what i now supect.. i rather just pull the alt head an replace the Reg and Diode module and leave the thing on the car.. But i still have to find a internal reg and diode kit somewhere.. i will have my brother put his battery tester on thw battery next week end but I don't think thats it . car starts to well as is.
The alternator passed the test. the battery passed the test.. so Im back to tracing circuts on this thing from one end to the other..
