To continue from the Anything Goes thread on the potential trade; here's the car.

1962 Porsche 356B - Notchback, 52,000 original miles.
Everything is original including Blaupunkt stereo and speakers
Car cover, and bra.
Runs great.
Imported from Germany
Price: $20,000 or best offer.

Again, I'm not committed to anything yet. I'm waiting on Dude to call me back, and it might well be after the holiday.

what part of the body will be coated hazard orange? As Paris says, that's HOT! To bad you can't do both. I couldn't imagine giving up the rocket ship, but I also know where you are coming from. I think that if I could trade the speedster for another... it would have to be a Sunbeam Tiger/Alpine. I considered buying one before I got the speedster, but a twinkle in my eye pushed me in another direction.

BTW - they were all imported from Germany... just like me, and that ain't saying much.
I got mine for $206,000 two years ago. A house down the road was sold last week for 225,000 ,so 20,000 profit in two years is not that bad.
Mine has the biggest back yard in the subdivision WITH a pond in the back. The back yard is 140ft wide. BTW we were the first one to move in.
Is anyway I can move my house to Cali so I can make a COOL million + ? Then I will be able to get a brand new speedster, spyder, and a coupe.
Cory - COOL! At the very least, with that car you won't have the issue of 'real', 'authentic, 'original' and all that! As always - go with your gut.

Lambros - In our neighborhood, a house like that (square footage w/3-car garage) and that lot size is listed for no less than $2M! Crazy, huh!

That might explain the cars that show up at the Cars & Coffee meet that post here on occasion.
Cory,

Check out the Parts Obsolete web site under "Cars For Sale." There's an early 60's Notchback for sale right now. Nicely done up in your favorite orange, cage, racing interior and engine. It just might change your mind about getting and KEEPING the Notch in question.

If you DO trade for the Notch, I have an idea. Ask me later . . .

Cory,

Grab up that Notch, strip EVERYTHING out of it that's "356" and auction a restorer's package deal on Ebay for $10,000/$20,00 or so. Bring me the shell and we'll put in an SCCA legal DOM cage for you, do up some down tubes to the suspension mounting points in case you want to run a ball joint Ghia front beam and sell of the 356 unit and I'll send you home with all of the Porsche 914 and 944 parts necessary to put the car completely back together as an awesome OUTLAW.

All you have to do is build up another engine (maybe $5,000 or less) and you'll end up with an absolute KILLER for the price of a mill.

$20,000 in your pocket from the parts sale, and STILL have a car (STILL a Genuine 356 Porsche) that will bring you another $20,000 when the time comes for you sell it.

As long as you begin with a steel 356, you can do ANYTHING to it and it remains a 356.

Maybe? As sweet as they ARE, a stock 356 would NEVER satisfy you at this point.

Lemme know and I'll start putting all of the necessary bits and pieces in one place. Do you want refurbished 914 gauges, or Autometer . . . what sort of pilot's seat, Kirkey or Pro-Car?
Cory-

Assuming you had a garage, TC's mad-scientist idea really does seem to make a bit of sense (you heard it here first). Assuming you had a garage.

Coupe, hoopty, go-cart, bicycle, big-wheel, whatever-- a man needs a garage. You sir, are a man. You need a garage..... more than a coupe, more than a speedster, or sypder, or whatever.

My advice? Move to where ever you have to live to get one.

That's why New Englanders LOVE Winter so much . . . . the snow hides all of our crap. If you look closely you can make out the shape of the Ghia, everything behind it is nicely tucked away under a blanket of snow.
OK, so just maybe the final version of the Notch Outlaw that I'm suggesting would be worth MORE than the $20,000 that I'd first suggested . . .

Considering what scrap metal is going for . . .

Oh, my MAN! Are you drinkin' a Sunrise in that shot?
TC...

Do what I did and get one of those portable garages. My one car garage has been full of stuff for years...can barely get in and out of it. So I got a portable garage from Crappy Tire here up north.

10 x 20 and the IM fits in there perfectly with room for a bench at one end and tool chests along the side and lots of room to work on the car. Stuck in a 40,000 BTU herman nelson heater and hung some halogen worklights from the ceiling and I can work on the car in there till about minus 35 in relative comfort.

You won't regret it...

Almost closed up, only two small areas to close and seal. A nurse comes by daily and changes the dressing and she thinks it will be completely closed in the next two weeks. Awful big dent back there without a tendon but I'm able to walk with a slight limp, once it's completely closed I'll start some vigorous exercises and PT to keep the mobility up and stop any scar tissue from freezing the ankle. Thanks for asking, I'll post a picture later when it's bearable to look at.
