There was some cheap talk a while back about changing locations for the 06 get together. 356 and Spyder cars only was part of the chat. I will throw down the first motion: I will be the chairman of the 06 event if we hold it in Encinitas and we limit it to our cars only. Do I hear a second? The floor is open for discussion.

Sorry, we'll pass on Encinitas. That's even further south than Knotts at Buena Park. Anything central california or northern, count us in. That also makes it easier for the washington/canadian contingent - though they have proven time and time again that they will drive anywhere! angela
David B. Encinitas is a perfect location for such a show, but there is actually a larger number of members who come from the North than from the South every year even though the drive is much shorter for the southern cars...The last two years has been in the south, I for one think we need to be looking at a venue either on the coast by Pismo Beach or a vineyard somewhere around Paso Robles/San Luis Obispo Vicinity.....
We need more opinions here....
Any discussion or decision to change the venue and create an exclusive Speedster and Spyder replica show in 2006, or some other time in the future, requires a lot of thought about location as well as many other considerations. I have opened another topic in this forum titled: "2006 AHA Knott's Show".

I think that topic heading will provide an opportunity for broader consideration of the issues involved in such a move.
Hoss,
I did very seriously threaten to go to Carlisle in 2006. I'd have to take a fair amount of time off work to get there. Another option is for all of us to pool a car carrier. Logistics behind that could be a nightmare... But then we could fly out and meet our cars somewhere then drive the rest of the way. I've still got Carlisle 06 in the back of my mind. Have not dismissed the thought, just thinking thru particulars. There are considerations that must be made when you are employed, married w/children and have a car with no top...

As far as driving to say Paso Robles and the effect on other people, I ran Mapquest to check that. Medford OR to KNotts - 711 miles, but to Paso Robles 547 miles. Phoenix to Knotts - 577 miles - just 360 to Paso Robles. Las Vegas to Knotts - 396 miles - 270 to Paso Robles. I didn't run it for the Washington/Portland OR, Canadian folks, but it should be quite a bit shorter (some 160 miles) as it is for me from Medford.

See, the distance is not the huge factor for me. The abyssmal condition of the freeways from the grapevine south is significant but even that wouldn't do it. I feel like the speedstah/spyder people are being treated like second class citizens at this show. Too much emphasis on bling-bling trailer queens while cars that are racking up thousands of miles each year (and sometimes each month - and for hoss in a WEEK) are not appreciated for what they are. Truly FUNCTIONAL works of art.

We built this car to DRIVE. And drive we shall. There are too many fun driving events like the Parts Obsolete campout and hopefully, the event we plan here. As long as the event is a driving event that features the terrific people on this site, then count us in. No matter where it is. (even, possibly, Carlisle). angela
I have to say that Knotts or any West Coast event is probably not going to happen for me next year. But, if I could get time off, it would be a lot funner type of event if there was some driving involved and a little nicer atmosphere then the parking lot. Although I had a really nice time the night before looking at peoples cars and talking to people the night before in the Hotel parking lot.
