I bet that there's some kind of class requirement that prohibits air channeling devices on certain cars, and they probably build a large wind cutting hood scoop to get around the rules. Scoops allow, air splitters prohibited.

Without the scoop, you'd have a tough time pushing air up and over the windshield. With that scoop, the air flow is split in thirds and nicely flows over and around the cabin, PLUS provides for a nice low pressure area to funnel air into the engine bay without ramming it in, and THEN have to get it back out into the flow again.


Maybe?

Otherwise, it's just a weird kinda ugly scoop . . .
