Well guys and gals - been hanging around for while and jumped in yesterday. I bought Paul Gerdes CMC speedster.Drove down to Williamsburg VA and towed her home w/ my tow bar.
It is a older built CMC w/ who knows how many miles and where it's been. I have been looking for a fixer upper for a while and the time was right. I think I bought well, but she needs lots of work and the goal is to get her done by Carlisle 09. It will come apart like my MG TD did and we will start from the beginning w/replacing the pans removing all rust, check brakes, engine rebuild etc.Lots of work, but I did it before and can do it again. The MG I restored w/ my oldest son who is off in college and this car will be done w/ the help of my 15 and 11 year old boys - so another father and son's good time.
Wish me luck - for the one year turn around - it will be a chore, but plan on making it fun.
I am sure I will be posting asking for help - the electrical stuff drives me nuts and can be over my head, so please help if you can.I will be looking for replacement stuff for the CMC, so if you have some let me know.
I hope this also gives Wolfgang a push to complete his this year - saw his this last weekend and he is close - just needs to close the deal. Thanks Greg for the Towbar loan.
See you guys in Carlisle minus the speedster ( w/ the MG ) hopefully w/ the speedster next year.
Dale

Thanks Guys
One of the reasons for picking this project is the group of people here. PLUS - I like the style of the speedster.
It is a widebody ( was really looking for a standard ), So I think it will be going toward the old school outlaw look w/ a mix of new.
I have some ideas of color, wheels, interior, etc. and will be putting that all together as the demo goes along. I will will be taking more pic's at Carlisle ( as if I don't have enough ) and will mix a match my likes and dislikes. One thing about going the outlaw custom style is you can go about any way you like. I don't want it to be to crazy as I want to sell one day and trade up, but I think I can put together a nice ride.

Again thanks
Dale,
The people are even better in real life. I've gone to events without my car just to hang out with some of them. On business trips, I look 'em up and we "do lunch" etc.

Absolutely AWESOME people. Even Vince. (don't tell him I complimented him, but maybe "especially Vince").

C'mon Angela. Gordon can do a cook out on his patio overlooking the water, and you'll get to see a spectacular sunset. I'll drive down from Charleston, along with one or two others, and Gordon can assemble the Beaufort contingent. The Atlantic coast is nice this time of year.

Now back to Dale - It looks like you're in the running to be next year's star, since Alan and his new car will be this year's. Woohoo! Look forward to seeing you again this year.
In Florida this week and next. Right now, Orlando, then switching to Port Charlotte for next week. Page Arizona and Lake Powell next week.... I swear that when I quit this job (no time soon) I am going to shoot my suitcase. I'll take to the gun range and empty clips into until I can't hold onto my .380 any longer...

That will be an interesting day at the range LOL!

I get work in your area, I'll give all ya all a shout!

I (and, I'm sure, a number of others on here) know how you feel.

Speaking for, I'm sure, all of the "Road Warriors", both ex and current who visit this site; "Business travel is always glamorous to those of us who don't."

I walked away and retired from a job that had me traveling well over 300,000 miles per year. Some of it fun and some of it very cushy but all of it away from family. As Dorothy said, "There's no place like home".

Now retired, this was a big travel week for me: Went to Savannah on Monday (had a new truck cap installed) and went to Charleston today to visit Lane. Both were an hour or two each way. That's about all I want to do for the next few weeks. It's too beautiful in Beaufort right now to leave (the Azaleas are in full bloom and are everywhere).

Keep us all in mind and let us know via email when you'll be coming to a place near us. Many of us (who no longer travel as much) would love to see you when you're in our necks of the woods.

Gordon

OH! and Dale:

You gonna give the MG to your son??
Funny you should say that Gordon - when my oldest son Josh who is off in college who helped me build the TD heard I bought this car was not happy to learn I had to sell it when I complete the speedster. I had to promise my wife one or the other had to go when it's done. He feels like it is his as much as mine - I think he figured it would be his some day when I leave this earth. I think I may get some help from him w/ my wife when the time comes - we will see. In the mean time it will be around for a while till I finish the speedster.
Cow flops dried in the Sun??

hmmmmmmm.........I'll pass.

Here in the "Low Country", we have "Shrimp Burgers". Battered, local shrimp, mushed together into a Burger shape, flash fried and served on a bun. With the right seasoned batter, they are amazingly good.

Then too, the Low Country is noted for having the best local Shrimp and Oysters anywhere ("Friends don't let friends eat imported Shrimp" bumper stickers everyhere).

Geez! Now I'm getting HUNGRY!!

gn
A bit crispy? We nearly sent them to Canada for Greenberg's son to use as hockey pucks... The league probably wouldn't have let them be used as they were far too hard...

By the way, any of you all that wind up near our way - our house is your house! We'll probably take you to dinner rather than BBQ for you though. You'll appreciate it...
