Hello all,

I am a nube here to the spider (ha ha just kidding) SPYDER owners site.

I have been driving/restoring Porsches for 15+ years and always loved the 550.

I came across a 550 kit the other day, and purchased it.

My research has shown me that it is a Perry kit, but it is just the body on a roller chassis. No tub.

I know that the Perry kit is not the most sought after kit, however it is just what I am looking for. I want it because it will be my first kit, and dealing with a donor VW beetle will be far less daunting from a fabrication, and titling (Canada) standpoint.

So I am looking for some of your experience, and input.

I have been deeply bitten, so I WILL have a 550.

My options are:

1) Contact Perry D, and check on new tub availability. Is Perry still in business? Their web site is NA.

2) Sell this 550 body, and buy an unassembled kit, if and when available. I want an unassembled kit because it is the work that is half the interest for me.

I searched this site and there was a guy in Canada (frank-3r) that had the perfect kit for me, but he has not responded to any of my e-mails. His last post was 2 years ago :(

Are there any other Perry 550 Spyder kits out there?

Any input, or leads on unassembled kits would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Michael

It is a personal choice of course, but it depends on how close you want to come to an original. As you may have gathered, the perrys don't gain alot of support here just because there are much closer copies to the original available. Even the outer cosmetics and dimensions are a little off. Have you looked at or driven any other manufactures' 550? that may answer the question for you. If yours is the only 550 in the area, and the likely hood is you'll never see another, then you may be completley satisfied. It is my opinion that if you do see any of the others though, you will want one of them. Perhaps if there was no other manufactures we would probably all be driving perrys.
