Linkie no workie.
I asked Jake Raby about that a long time ago and he recommended (since I don't have much "meat" between intake ports on my heads) to get the manifold flanges milled really flat, then use Locktite Flange Sealant on 'em. Works great. I'll have to look in the drawer to find the Locktite number, if you need it.
Yup, listen to Gordon. Most of us have manifolds about 3/32" thick at their thinnest point so O-rings won't work.
Locktite 510 Flange Sealant
Yup, that's it. I cut Wasserboxer intake gaskets to fit and use Loctite 517 anaerobic gasket maker along with the activator for another option. Your gaskets should be thin and stiff, not that smooshy crap that CB sells. Those thick gaskets are a guarantee of a leaking intake(and a rocking and loose manifold).
Thin bead as pictured or smeared on both sides of the gaskets?
We can't see the picture, Bill. But I put a very thin bead of 517 on both sides of the gasket and spray accelerator on the head and the manifold. Put together and torque to 18 ft. lbs. if you can torque them. Those little 12 point flange nuts are awesome. Leave the standard 13mm head nuts off, trust me.
I put my manifolds on in 2008, about 35,000 miles ago. Haven't moved or leaked.
Wow!
I gotta get one of them applicator Doo-Hickies!
Yeah, run a small bead (1/8") around the flanges and smoosh it together. Don't smear it around with your finger or anything, just leave it as a bead. Smearing it around just makes it uneven. I applied it to just the manifold (slightly thinner than 1/8", actually) and sprayed the accelerator to the head flange....Mooshed them together and torqued it down as best I could with my 11mm nuts and a stubby open end wrench (not a lotta room in there....)
BTW: I was just touring the shop at Lampin Precision Manufacturing yesterday, and they apply something like Locktite 510 to teeny-tiny gearboxes but they actually use a process just like silk screening. Wicked cool.
