I've been wondering what I was going to do about this for a while, and the "Story Time" string reminded me; I have the CMC build plate with the S-XXXXX stamp on it. I can't remember what the five digits were off the top of my head, but it comes up as an RV in the motor vehicle administration's registry, not a VW-based Speedster.
I would only keep it to maintain the car's history accurately.
Question is, should I find a home on the car for that little brass plate?
It was removed from inside the boot when there was still a fuel tank mounted through the fiberglass. Now that's all gone, and so is most of CMC's work.
What would you guys do?

Mount the plate if that's the vin you are using. Maybe on one of your frame bars somewhere out of the way but accessible for the vin inspectors. Might also consider stamping the number in a couple of hidden places on your frame in the event that someone likes your hoopty more than you do and you must identify it after its stolen.

Otherwise if you're not using that vin, just keep the plate as part of the car's records. Mounting TWO vin's would really cause you problems.
