OEM Doghouse Fan Shroud Question

After successfully (thank God!) installing the VW OEM shroud with thermostat and vanes I noticed that there's a hose fitting on the upper right edge of the shroud. With the car running I noticed a lot of air coming out of there. What is it for? I don't have anything to hook it up to. Can I just plug it? If so, where can I find a rubber plug of adequate size to install it with a clamp?
