I don't believe the tube chassis is ready for prime time yet.
The other thing is it isn't the chassis that makes the wheel spacing off, it is the body that is off a little.

@DannyP, It seems like wherever the opening is in the body, a tube chassis could be designed to move the wheel to the center of the opening. This wouldn't be so easy with a pan based car.

Id be interested to learn more about this statement. Can you elaborate? How would the California DMV even start with such an investigation?
I agree with Ted. Give us the details.
Old VW pans aren’t there anymore. That area has been cleaned out AND nicely paved. You should see the inside of the office - very nice now!
The front wheel alignment to body is how the body is placed on the chassis (from what I’ve seen on two different mounting efforts at Greg’s shop). My pan and body are from Kirk and Greg’s guys did the mounting - my wheel to body spacing is perfectly aligned. I watched them do it and it took a good few hours and multiple measurements to get it aligned properly.
Tube chassis isn’t ready, but will be worth the wait IMO.
I’m also curious about this new DMV in CA thing... do tell!
Michael, I thought it was more on one side than the other. Sorry.
@DannyP, maybe you are right. I don't have a VS so I don't know if it is one side or both. No need to apologize, my friend.
Best to PM some topics ....
For DMV in CA. I wish I had bookmarked where I had read the article from. I think the end goal was to go through SB100 process. Its always about how much money the state can extract from you.
SB100 is probably the best route for you Californicators. No emissions ever, right!
I had a chance to swing by Vintage Motorcars to pick up my rims for the coupe build. I could tell Greg is running around mad/stressed with everything he has going on. Thankfully, he was nice enough to let me swing by the "new" Vintage Motorcars location. I'm floored on how much work his crew has done in such little time...
For those that remember how Vintage Speedster looked - it was not the most pleasant. Yellow walls, shop was a mess full of parts/stuff, and rooms full of boxes and probably dead bodies... ok... minus the dead bodies... probably dead rats...
I only had time to snap a few photos of the front office, but it looks really nice compared to how it looked before. Even the back shop area looks great. I'm surprised how much room there is once all the crap was cleaned out. He even paved the area behind the fence before going into the shop space.
I'm trying to convince Greg to start a monthly or quarterly "cars and coffee" there for us owners of Speedsters, Coupes, and Sypders... maybe a BBQ once a quarter...
This explains why VS could of cared less about the reject top they sent me...
Best of luck with the new venture!
Just before VS was sold, I received a header bow from VS that warped luckily Justin is looking into getting me a replacement , that is a good way to start great customer relationship!

No, not right. Registered as a VW in California also means no smog ever.
SB100 will make it more difficult to sell in some states (not California).

Can't find details? Then it's just a rumor.
Correct me if I am wrong, but it is also quite Difficult to get an SB100, or it used to be.
And it can be even more difficult and even sometimes impossible in a lot of other states.

So glad mine is registered as a '56 Porsche Speedster...

I'm stoked for Greg and his crew, they've already done a lot to make the place look great and having been at Gregs prior digs, I know it will be a very professionally run business. Looking forward to the possible Cars n Coffee or any kind of meet-ups at this new location. Great Start for Greg's new location!!!

The cat is out of the bag and the rumors are true…
Business at Vintage Motorcars has been really good and with the recent sale of Vintage Speedsters, we have an opportunity to come back to a shop we are very familiar with and a place where I started my love of this industry. Most of you know my history and passion in this industry; it all started in Hawaiian Gardens.
We have leased the old Vintage Speedster facility at 12112 Centralia Rd, Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716 Our phone number and email address will remain the same. Prior to moving in, we are planning to re-pave the outside, update the interior show room, and clean up the workspace so that it is inviting and welcoming to new and old customers and families and friends. We plan to have a FULL SERVICE facility (tune-ups, oil changes, body work, paint, etc.). We will also have a FULL line of Spyder parts, Speedster parts, and Coupe parts available. Yes – it says SPEEDSTER parts! Please check out our new website. It will have all the parts you need – parts are being added daily.
Another rumor that is true – we have designed, built, and will offer a Speedster body hand built and perfectly aligned in house. The body has updated front and rear deck lid hinges. It also has newly designed door latches. We are also in the beginning stages of building a custom tube chassis for the Speedster. The quality and strength will be the same as the Spyder chassis and new chassis is a beauty!
We will be adding the old crew from Vintage Speedsters. This is a small industry and I have worked with them over many years. They are just as passionate about this industry as I am. For that reason alone, we are working hard to bring them onboard. Once they get started, we will be training them on the Vintage Motorcars way of building where the focus is on QUALITY and attention to detail.
One big thing that we will be offering is Speedster and Spyder rentals, what better way to make sure you are making the right purchase! We will be adding details on our new website soon.
This is a big move for us, so please be patient has we get everything up and running at the new shop. We will also be scheduling an Open House. We hope EVERYONE comes to visit in his or her Spyder, Speedster, and/ or Coupe. We would also love for this spot to be a routine monthly/quarterly/ yearly meet-up for all the enthusiasts in this industry. There is a LOT more to share, but I hope this post helps explain a few things. Please use this thread to ask as many questions as you would like. We will respond as quickly as possible.

Congratulations on a great move Greg, and wishing you all the best. I can't wait to see the new digs when its finished. If you need photography done, let me know.
Got some inside pics of the main office/entry. Looks a LOT better then what the old office looked like!
Wow it really does look better - nice work those folks
I don't know what it looked like before, but it does look nice.
Needs a couple Speedster love seats scattered around waiting area! Is someone going to update the current manufactures at the Resources tab. I keep repeating "Who's on first, no he's on third". Can't wait for dust to die down and we see new innovations on the street.
Hey! That's just what Lane needs !
I think he has one of those already... LOL!
Got a few photos of their new shop setup. Look they the move is complete and they are up in running!
Nice... Looks like lots of room for growth. @*LongFella Any chance you got a peek at my coupe?
Hmmm... The third picture does show a grayish coupe on a lift. Could that be yours?

That is Greg's coupe he has been building - it is the 1955 Pre-A Coupe Build #1. I think he is getting it prep for an upcoming show (not sure which one). It's going to look great!

That's great!
Hi Greg, saw your coupe at the Phoenix club P show and the car looked great- super sharp.
Gorgeous car, Greg! Congratulations on the expansion.
It is beautiful in-person. When I was there last week, I couldn't stop starring at it... got me all excited to get my Coupe build finished...
I even, for a very tiny brief second, thought about selling my Speedster and just having a Coupe...
