All, I am taking Aaron up on his suggestion to start a new thread for the gathering in Asheville in September. I have called the Hilton Group Sales office and left a voice mail (lunch time). From what I saw on the website, we should be able to get room more easily and for a lower rate as we won't be competing with the leaf peepers. Hopefully we can get a meeting room as well.

The last time I checked, those who had said they planned to come were:

Me (& Pam?)
Tom Raymond (& ?)
Jack & Alice Crosby
Leon (& Margaret?) Chupp
Felix Bircher (& ?)
Aaron White and spouse (local, no room needed)
John and Sarah Hallstrand
Marty and Sandy G.
Nolan and Jan Scott
Clint and Beth Owings (local, no room needed)

Anyone else? You know you wanna ;-)

Aaron has asked for suggested activities. I expect that some would like to do the Biltmore tour again (or for the first time if they've never been), and I will arrange that for Sunday morning so that we can do the photo shoot in front again.

Tom's tour of the Wheels Through Time museum on Friday was a hit last year. How will we match it this year?

What about Saturday? Last year we cruised up to Mount Mitchell for site-seeing and lunch. Other cruise ideas? I will support anything that lets us enjoy some nice roads and get a nice meal.

For the meeting place for Friday lunch let's do Chelsea's again, unless folks would rather go elsewhere.

As for Saturday dinner, Marty and Sandy hit a home run IMO with the Italian place across from the hotel. Good food, good wine, good service, and a nice private room. Wanna do that again?

Aaron, I will let you find us a replacement for the now-defunct Fiddlin' Pig.

I'm in for 9/9-11

A suggested ride, and I will work on it if the group is interested:

from Asheville, take US 19-23 (the old road that paralell's I 26) to Jonesborough, TN for lunch (TN oldest town). 19-23 will give you your fill of twisties. Then on to Bristol Motor Speedway, where I arrange a few laps (lead & follow / no hotdogging) on the track.

Timeline

9 AM leave hotel
10:30 AM arrive J'Boro, town tour & lunch
1 PM depart for BMS
1:45 PM arrive BMS & laps
3 PM depart BMS for hotel
5 PM arrive back in Asheville

This could be a Friday event as well (if we can get Lane out of Asheville)

Interest ?
Lane,
12 Bones isn't open for dinner...How about real German food? See photo above taken off their website. I've seen the chef on TV and he does truly prepare true Bavarian food.

Drive South on the Parkway to Pisgah Inn for a late lunch. Reservations required. Great views.

Felix, Jack

There is a back road trip from Cleveland TN thru to Asheville about 200 miles would add most of a day to get there but well worth the trip. If I recall correctly it runs down thru the Ocoee valley to Cherokee then grab the Blue Ridge to Ashville. Maybe some of the locals can advise if it's woth the trouble. Last Becky and I rode it was springtime and beautiful, way better than interstate.

Aaron the buckle is for sale causes me a little grief every time I have worn it.
Block of 12 rooms booked at the Hilton Biltmore Park for the 9th and 10th, with "shoulder" dates of the 8th and 11th for those who come early and or leave late. The rate is $145, which is $34 less than we paid for October of last year. I'll have more details when the paperwork comes in the mail.

WOOHOO!!! We almost have the Smokies trip set up before Carlisle is even done. Just gotta set up the Biltmore visit. Y'all please give me an idea how many want to do the tour and/or photoshoot in front of the mansion.

I will make an announcement at dinner in Carlisle to spread the word further.
Richard,

The road your are speaking of is Highway 64. Be forewarned that it is an all day drive from Chattanooga area. Cleveland, Copper Hill, parallels the Oconee River in TN., Murphy, NC, to Hendersonville, NC.

I can have a few other routes, but Jack will be traveling I-40. Get off at the Lenior City exit highway 321?,(pick up Hoss) go to Athens, Tn, Tellico plains, Robbinsville via the Cheraloa Parkway or the Tail of the Dragon then into Asheville from Maggie Valley.

My Grand Dad was in a high position when the group was highly respected. The Royal Order of the Rose never acted and or conducted themselves in the way of the current membership. I'll discuss the why's and were fores at Carlisle. Our North membership would not understand is written in the blog!

Bring the buckle and we'll talk.

Richard,
I'm an old "Ginuwine" Tennessee Hillbilly! When I go home to visit, I use both routes depending on the time factor. I detest going through Knoxville! My preferred route is via the Cherohala Parkway. I've taken the Parkway way to fast and entertained the bikers. They couldn't believe what they saw. One can go Robbinsville, Lake Fontaina, follow the Natahalla River, Cherokee, NC, up Soco Gap Road, Maggie Valley, Lake Junaluska, then in on I-40 just outside of Asheville.

You bring Jerry Clower CDs?
Aaron,
"One can go Robbinsville, Lake Fontaina, follow the Natahalla River, Cherokee, NC, up Soco Gap Road, Maggie Valley, Lake Junaluska,"

That sounds great what are the road #'s?

We have spent at least a week a year until 2010 in the Smokies and ridden all over on roads I never had an Idea what they were all of 129, 441, routes out of Asheville to see the waterfalls that was a great day but no iea where we went, Honda had a guided tour. All around Black Mountain, Chimney Rock and back roads to SC Low Country.

One day will get to spend some time and ride the roads you speak so highly of...

Life got sadder when Jerry Clower died he was a very nice gent got the pleasure of spending time with him up in Yazoo City long ago.

Sorry I can't make Carlisle but intend to celabrate "Fall in the Smokies"
