Has anyone done this Ride in their car.

No, but on a motorcycle several times. Don't go on the weekend and try weekday - mid day. It's an absolute blast but very dangerous, mostly because so many others don't know their limitations and you'll find them coming at you in your lane around the many blind corners! Police are also much more active on it now. Again, avoid weekends but do it. It's a bucket list thing

Looks spectacular! We have a few very scenic roads with some nice hairpin turns, but the driving/walking/standing habits of tourist make it real scary.
Tom, I love that picture!
In 2007, 2008, and 2009 a bunch of us gathered in Townsend, TN and did the TOD in the fall. It's a neat drive the first couple of times, but it's heavily policed and some of the motorcyclists are suicidal and don't seem to care who they take with them. There are plenty of other, less publicized roads in the Smokies that are just as fun.
Yea, it was 2007 alright. That's when I was leading the parade and got nicked at 46 in a 30 mph zone.....the whole dragon's speed limit. I had a little trouble explaining what my car was to the state boy but managed to overcome that and drive away with a pink receipt. It would have been a more expensive ticket but I went to "school" to get the fine reduced and a promise of no mark on my license if I was a good boy in Blount (pronounced like "blunt") county for five years.

It took a loooooong time for that state trooper to write you up, too, maybe from you trying to reason with him.
I remember we all stopped at a lookout a mile farther up on the road and Cory had time to pull all of his idle jets and clean them. He was big into that back then.
Is there such a thing as "reasoning" with a trooper? No, not this one anyway.
