I'm not having much luck purchashing used items over the internet. (because I'm cheap and gullible??)

A spiffy MPH reading speedo is a piece of crap...A VDO oil temp gauge was shipped with a broken spade connecter that also cracked open the bakelite housing!! (These sellers are on my 'Roast in Hell' list)

I'll live with my KPH speedo...but can I substitute a water temp gauge to monitor oil temp?

Temperature is temperature...right??

Leon, I'm aware of different ranges between the two liquids, but the water temp gauge I'm looking at is numerically incremented at exactly the same ranges as the majority of oil reading gauges that are available...in fact it looks like the damaged VDO that was sent me except it's imprinted 'water' below the dial instead of 'oil'!!!

From the back, looking at the spade connectors, they're identical. there are three spades marked "-" for ground?, "+" for power?, and "S"which must be sender?

So it seems to me that its function is to register heat regardless of the source...be it oil or water...Right?
