Michael,

I agree, it only for looks.

As for baffleing, I haven't had a "Lower End Pressure" problem. I have "Vented Valve Covers" with vent hoses plumbed to a "Common Collector" and then the Collector is plumbed to the Breather Vent on the Oil Filler Tower.

I personally direct my engine mods with fuction, efficency and try to not stray much from the "Original" Speedster/VW design.

However, everyone has their own likes/dislikes. (Wide Body/Classic/Type 1/Type 4 - ETC)

Good Luck,

Jack Blake
I have a baffled breather box from CB Performance. It functions about the same as a Berg breather, although I'm sure the Berg guys would dispute that statement ;>), and has positions for vent hoses from the crankcase (I have a fuel pump block-off plate and put a fitting on that) and/or valve covers, and other places for vent hoses to each of the dual carb air cleaner covers.

It seems to do the same job that the Berg one does, but I think it's more decorative than anything (brushed aluminum and all that).

I DID have trouble with keeping it tight, at first, since the size of the box is a big torque arm and could be used as a lever to loosen it easily. I changed the mounting gasket to rubberized cork and locktited the gland nut really well when I torqued it on and that seems to have cured it (at least for now.......)
Michael, if you're running a stock or near stock 1776 installing an oil tower or venting the valve covers is really not necessary. A small breather box, vented to the oil filler pipe and the carbs is all you need. If you have something bigger, then venting the valve covers would be a good idea. Having said that, I do like the Berg oil filler tower.
