I've got your basic 1600cc, but I've added a spin-on filter and an external oil cooler (fairly good sized). Any thoughts on what the new oil capacity is? Thanks, folks.

My local auto parts store guy has a bug with that setup, he claims 5.5 quarts each change.
Depends and where oil cooler is mounted, diameter of line to it, and size of oil filter (HP1?). Stock is like 2.6 qt so doubt it would be more than 4 qts. Overfilling is good way to blow seals so check the dip stick.
The cooler is on the other side of the firewall. The lines look like 1" to me. If I go by the dipstick, won't I be low, since it's rated to show full at 2.6 quarts ??

It seems that everyone's engine/filter/cooler/hoses are different. That said, do this:
1. Put in three US quarts,
2. then start it, run it for a minute, shut it down,
3. wait 5 minutes and then check the dipstick.
See if anything's showing (I doubt that it will yet, but keep going).
If it doesn't show on the stick at all, add a quart and and repeat #1-3
If it does show on the stick, either add 1/2 US qt or your best judgement and repeat #1-3 until you get it to the Full mark.
