Beautiful morning to potentially screw up my first investment. But, bought a set of big boy wrenches, threw on some old clothes and away i went. Jacked that car up and put the stands under... That was scary but easy. Got all the oil drained and changed the screen and plate and nuts to new, used my new torque wrench (hopefully correctly) and put some stuff on the gaskets and got all that back under the car. Called Corey and sent a pic of TDC and i hit it right the first time, took off the covers checked for adjustment and only had to adjust an exhaust valve a tiny bit. Cleaned up the covers put a little somethin somethin on those and have those chillin off to the side for the day. Put distributor back together, cleaned up a little under the car and engine compartment. Bought a grease gun and grease (such a big boy today) and greased the fittings. New plugs gapped and in new wires coming next week. All i need to do is pop on the valve covers, put in some oil and see if i screwed anything up.

What am i doing tomorrow? Probably towing my car to a german specialist and spending a shit load of money to make it right!!! Lol. For all the newbies it is an adventure and i recommend trying it yourself.

The car is in the shop. Prior to all the stuff I did, it was running rough and over a few days got real rough. From what has been done so far, and things beyond what I can even possibly think about doing...the timing was out, the carbs needed a serious adjustment, the valves were loose (even though I checked those and only had to adjust one...) so they again adjusted those, and the NGK plugs that were in the car that I changed were all wrong for the car. They said they were about 1/2 inch too long compared to the correct Super Plus I put in. I took the old NGK to the shop with me. I had replaced with Super Plus Bosche and they are correct now for the car. They are putting on electronic ignition and new fuel filter as well. They checked compression and all is good. I drove the car at the shop today to see improvement and it was about 90-95% better so I am relieved but the car is still there for the finishing pieces. New plug wires, check brakes, electronic ignition, and fuel filter all to be done. The popping and sputtering and hesitating seems gone and the pick up was much better

I am glad I have you all helping me through this (Especially You Corey...you have really been a huge help) and the shop I took it to is owned by a guy - Robert Overby, who is a 2 time National Speedster Racing Champ. He is friends with Bill Demeter and Bill suggested I call him. Thank you to Bill Demeter as well!! He is a local guy in Jax with a dealership and mechanics. I am happy to say that this will be good money spent to get it back on the road properly and know that if need be I have a mechanic I can trust. They have treated the car with respect although the head mechanic did say "is that one of those fake Porsches" too which it looked like the owner was going to jump down his throat for the comment after I left. Robert is a true Porsche 356 guy and never blinked once to help with this "fake" car. Great people. He says there is more they can do but wants me back out on the road enjoying for now.

It took me 2 months of talking to various mechanics locally to find someone I felt comfortable with. This is a $20,000 car but it is MY car and it is GORGEOUS so I want to keep it that way!
