This is what my temp gauge said after driving around town for about 20 miles or so lots of lights and stop and go so engine running probably 25 to 35 minutes.  Temp outside was 65.  Never went above 2800 rpm as i am trying to watch during breakin.

Never hear fan kick on but again topw was down, exhaust was loud, other cars druving next to me etc.

TRD, it depends on the location of your external oil cooler's 180 degree thermostat.  If it is located on the return end of your external oil cooler the fan will not be activated until the oil reaches 180 AFTER GOING THROUGH THE OIL COOLER.

Often times your external oil cooler does a good enough job of cooling the oil and the fan's extra cooling is not needed.

It really depends on the location of your external oil cooler's thermostat.

Ron brings up a good point - the thermo-switch might be on the cooler output and never getting hot enough to kick in.  Also, I don't know (and neither do you) what temp your engine is at when the silly, number-less, uncalibrated temp gauge is at mid-scale.  The only way you can tell is to use a dip-stick thermometer and then mentally know that, "OK, Mid-scale is about this" and go from there.  Personally, I drew a green line on the glass face of the gauge showing me where "normal" is which, for my car is about 200F, just in case my son is out tearing around in it.

As an aside, I took Pearl out the other day (about 34F outside) to get inspected in the Cod-Fish state, and the temp gauge got about a needle's width up off of the lower end of the scale....two needle's worth by the time I got home.  Brrrrrrrr......  It's a good thing I don't have heater boxes or I would have been complaining about the lack of heat in the cockpit!

have you done the first or second oil &filter changes yet?? first should be before 1 hour run time, I do second the next day after the first valve adjustment check&another hour of run time, then the 3rd about 3 more hours of run time.there is a lot of stuff in the oil of a new motor that will plug up a filter and the filter will bypass  the oil unfiltered to the motor and into the bearings where it will imbed and start eating.

HEY IT WORKS!!!!!  I took the car out - its about mid 60s today and I drove it on some long back roads and was able to stretch its legs a little.  I got home and heard a strange noise and sure enough I shut the car off and the fan was in hi gear.  Ran with the car off for about 3 minutes and shut off!  So, now if I can get that leak fixed, I will be good to go ON THAT PART!

That's where mine was.  It wasn't very effective, but then-again, it was trying to cool the engine from hell.

in front of the rear fire wall would be a choice for me as I dont like recirculating hot air.Ill put it  behind the rear tire with a pannel so nothing will get to it possiably sucking freas air from the engine compartment or nacaa ducks(the ones with the green wings) and use the moving car to help suck air through it., havent got that far, well havent done any thing but put a cover on it.I wont let my self even look at it till the race car is gone.
