Still working on the cmc unbuilt kit. Go figure - more time and $$ then expected I'm doing an external oil cooler in addition to the dog house cooler (Florida car) and am considering locations. Current idea is remote to front of car and plumb with alm tubing under the car. Recently saw older posts about locating above trans. Cooler if fan cooler pull or push. Any suggestions or cautions? Thanks richard.

Pushing all that oil to the front and back will most likely lower oil pressure quite a bit. I know 911's do it but they have a dry sump system so totally different setup. You can do search and see where some have mounted in wheel well or above trans (with scoop maybe) and keep oil flow distance short.

Is that chrome on engine cooling tin or chrome powder coating? Most will say chrome is bad for heat distribution - plus impossible to keep from rusting (especially in FL).
When my IM is finished (soon, I hope) it will have two Setrab oil coolers mounted in the front.
My mechanic, who is slower than molasses, but has a lot of experience working on air cooled VWs and Porsches, is going to install an an automatic transmission oil pump, which has an extra oil line for the auto tranny.
We'll see how well it works.....
As Wolfgang mentioned, most mount their oil coolers in the rear wheel well or above the tranny. I've had coolers in both locations and prefer the above tranny location.

email me at speedstahguy at gmail dot com and I'll send you an article I wrote about converting an engine to full flow oil cooling, including selection and placement of the cooler and external filter. That should help you a lot.

I wouldn't worry too much about that chrome cooling tin at all. The job of the cooling tin is to direct air to the engine not to act as a radiator of heat. The way that it could effect cooling is via poor fit with air leaks and improper internal directional vanes that do not control or direct air to the hottest areas like the heads.
