Guys, does anyone have a suggestion for replacing the oil filler /breather on a Porsche 912 engine? Does the ones for a VW fit?

So you want to make your scarce 356/912 engine look like a run of the mill VW engine? Now that's a twist. One has to ask why? So folks won't steal it? Dibbs on the oil filter housing when you remove it. $15 for a used VW generator tower with oil cap and you could surely try it.
Maybe ask on the SAMBA 356 site.
It looks like the 912 oil filer/breather bolts on with a gasket while the VW uses a threaded nut and gasket to connect to the generator tower bracket. If yours isn't rusted through, soak it in a rust removing solution (muratic acid and water or vinager) for couple days to clean off internal rust and maybe have it powder coated. I actually had a 911 oil dry sump container rust out - so much for oil preventing rust. I'm sure a replacement Porsche part is costly as all PORSCHE parts are.
The old days?... you mean when I was a kid?
OUCH! That hurts, Dean!

Oh! You mean the *really* old days. When I was a kid, gas was .85 cents a gallon and free love would get you and STD.
Ha - I'm with Dean and the 25 cent gallon gas - and STP for instant engine "overhaul"
Yea I remember pumping gas, checking oil and washing windows at the Mobil ?, in town. Gas was two bits, and snickers bars a nickel.
Yes, things were a lot cheaper, but remember what wages we earned?
In high school I worked at our local burger joint and earned a whopping $1.00 per hour. Mind you, I got all my food for free (when the boss wasn't around).
I think, I delivered the Oakland Tribune, everyday of the year, for about 5-7 bucks a month, (no taxes though), I had to use the family wheel barrow on Sundays as the paper was so thick and heavy.
OK Ron, I've bored this crowd with the 50's---->60's stuff.
I'll politely move on. Peace

That's good, because my boss died 25 years ago.
