I will take pics and post when I can get under the car...but, Vintage built car back in 2000. 1600CC motor and from the looks and feel this was just a straight motor with no bells and whistles. Can anyone confirm that back in 68 ish when they built these motors that they did NOT put external oil filters on them and that what they do have is just the oil strainer? I have been told that is the case but wanted to check with you all and see if I am missing something.

Thanks

Todd

One of the smartest thing you can do for your motor is add a full flow filter. The reduction in wear is signifigant. For a mild motor that doesn't rev any more than 5500 or 6000 rpm an oil filter/pump combo or pump with the in and out fittings in the cover will do. You don't need a pump with 30 or 32mm gears; that creates more problems.
No US T1's came with a real oil filter - just the fly screen to catch the big hunks. But 3 ways to add -
1. Best/most costly is to remove and disassemble engine and tap case for full flow. The shaving left require though case cleaning.

2. Add an oil pump cover with dual outlets and modify (or buy new) oil pump and plum filter in rear wheel well. CB Performance makes the cover and supplies new oil pump. Covers are cast iron or alloy.

3. Least expensive and easiest to do (IF it doesn't interfere with your exhaust system!) is the EMPI 9270 $80 oil pump system.

Or, I guess, use a Type 4 engine which has real oil filter stock on the block.
