From reading a lot of info on this site about oil filters and which is the best, would any of you be interested in an evaluation of of the most popular filters available for our cars ?  I have in mind to get, oh say, 10 of the most popular oil filters, and do an evaluation on them. Dissection of them all may be the most significant part of this evaluation and may be the most interesting part but, who knows, there may be some other facet that may be a surprise for us all. This will be a winter project for me. So out here in So. Calif. with warm weather testing, I am lucky to be able to do this kind of thing and pass the on the results to you guys in the winter so, in the Spring, you can take advantage of what I/we discover. Your comments/opinions would be most appreciated..............Bruce

My pickup gets the cheapest oil and filters that some quick lube has.

It is abused in the worst weather and the shortest drives and it has 150,000 miles on it and runs perfectly.

The pets, get the best and are only driven on perfect roads in perfect weather for at least a couple hours.... go figure...

My conclusion is that oil is oil...filters is filters ...and I am wasting money and brain cells worrying about it.

I recall Jim saying he put 90,000 miles on one of these toys using what ever was on sale ???

Just my two cents...

I know that the Wix and NAPA Gold filters are the same, actually I think the Wix filters are cheaper in price at least around here. I guess filters are important to me becuase they "filter" the contamination.  I know Fram did have lots of quality issues with the cardboard and glue that would break down and get inhaled into the engine. I had installed a magnetic oil plug on my Subaru Forester and will get on for my speedster.

It will, however, blow up if you don't have some sort of relief.

They only blow up it you rev the engine unnecessarily when it's cold.
