Is there any way to stop the S-L-O-W consant drip of oil from the bottom of a 1600cc VW Engine?

The entire bottom of my engine is black with oil
First you have to find the point of leakage...... Is it the drain plate, pushrod seals, crankshaft seal ( flywheel ), valve covers, oil cooler, etc., etc., etc... There was an oil dye sold in the past that was used by taking the car to the do it yourself car wash, de-greasing the motor (totally), adding the dye at the car wash and checking when you fire up and when you get it home..... Not sure this product is still available... ( check NAPA )
You may find an odd ball cause like Lane Anderson's porous oil cooler adapter.....
Anyway, you can't fix it till you find it.... Good luck....
P.S. I'm chasing one on my type 4 engine....
It's an air cooled VW......... try and find one that doesn't leak!
As Leon mentioned, clean the bottom of your engine and then put a piece of cardboard under the engine. Next morning find the oil spots and look up....while you're head is under the engine, not while you're standing up .
