I took my car back from the shop last week (with new engine).I drove it home and parked it.I checked the oil level after it cooled down and showed I was low.The builder told me it is normal to see oil drops on the floor but to keep an eye.I added some oil all the way up to the "full" mark. Then I drove it today and every time I will park my car for few minutes,I will find oil (2 inches diam)on the road.I checked the oil level and now says it is 5/16 over the "full" mark.Do you think 5/16 is to much to cause any problems?I will take the car back but I do not want "him" to give me any BS.What is your opinion?

Just adjust the oil accordingly. Whenever I get an oil change the mechanic is amazed at how much oil I take. He puts in about 3L and thinks that's VW enough and with the deep sump has to go to 7L before it's full. But when I get home (5 minutes) it's about 1-1.5" over the line.

The result, the oil pressurizes and settles and shows more. The last time my car was smoking all the way back. My neighbour came over and asked, "something wrong with the car"? I raised it and took out about 750ML of oil and it's OK now.

The moral of this is that I don't think mecahnics/ or even the dipsticks are correct. So adjust accordingly.
