I finally had a chance to go poke around the Speedy after my 1464 mile run this past weekend to the Dragon. I noticed the right carb filter was dark. There was also oil on the outside of the carb. I removed the filter and also noticed oil inside the filter. The car got hot in KY on the way back. My needle was over half way so I pulled over to check the oil temp which was 230. I never ran that hot so does this have anything to do with the problem? The oil is also noticably darker than normal. I ran it for a short drive today and so far ok. Any ideas?

I usually let mine sit overnite to dry. The K&N filter oil spray in a can works best. You only need a LIGHT oil film on the filter. It's very easy to over-oil the pleats with the oil in the squirt bottle that comes with the filter charger kit. Ask me how I know. Really, unless you drive in a very dirty dusty place, you shouldn't have to oil them at all, but everybody likes how purty the filters look when they are dyed red.
