oil pump query

Is it possible to use a Porshe 356 oil pump in a VW engine? I just purchased original Porsche gauges and want to run the tach. But it's a mechanical type, not electric like the newer VDO guages. I really don't want PA Speedo to convert it to electrical because the conversion is $400.
