I am contemplating adding a 1 1/2 qt sump, primatily because I just cant get comfortable with a 2 1/2 qt oil capacity, even though its just a 'stock' 1776. Curious as to what brands others have used, any issues with ground clearance, etc.
Thx in advance for your input. BTW - Berg is over 2 months out on availability right now. Any other brands out there good? Also, if anyone has an extra Berg sump I'd be interested in talking.

I'm pretty slammed and I run the 1.5QT CB on one and the 1.5 QT Berg on the other. I don't see much difference in the two. I have had to replace one because of a brick street and railroad tracks. I'd think it would be adequate on a 1776. What revs to you run? That may make the difference.
Jack - I'm rather tame with it - and honestly I question if adding a sump is a 'nice but not necessary' or basically 'not necessary' As to rev's - basically I want to be comfortable with long fwy runs summertime about 32-3300 rpm. The 1776 only has abt 4k on it. Guess its just the concern about only a 2.5 qt capacity...not much left if it were to get 1 qt low, and especially questioning it when I put 12 qts into wifes' 911.......
Thx
I've had two different sumps on my car...the regular 1.5 Q sump and a smaller but lower profile 1Q sump from CB. Trust me on this one, get the smaller, low profile one. I used to scrape on speedbumps all the time with the thicker one.
You really don't want your engine catching a sewer cap.

One important benefit of running a sump is that you have a constant supply of oil, even when you do some hard cornering. Originally, I didn't have a sump on my 1776 and the oil light would come on when I took a few corners at a brisk pace. The 1 1/2 quart sump solved that problem. I like the 3 quart sump, but I'm running a 2110 and my car is not lowered.

Eric - CB's sump plate is larger than stock, so needs special gaskets. They tell me you can use the stock strainer vs their oil filter. No hole in sump plate for easy draining, I would try to modify the sump plate to take a stock drain plug. Looks like not much diff in depth between their 1 qt and the 2 qt super wide model.
Dale, your right , my CB sump has a larger plate which makes putting it on and taking it off much easier. I also drilled and tapped a hole for a stock drain plug that way you don't need to change gaskets every time you change the oil. I also have the block full flowed with a remote filter so no need for a strainer in the sump.
