Another option for installation of the sender is to remove the plug (has a LARGE flatblade screwdriver head) from the oil port near the pulley and install the sender in place of the plug. Be careful if you remove the plug as there is a small piston and a spring that will need to be reinstalled if they fall out as they control flow to the oil cooler.

I do like the Tee idea and have never noticed it until now.

Oliver, are you talking about a Berg or Mainely temperature reading oil dip stick? (same principal as a meat thermometer) Or a temperature rotating electrical contact that activates the oil idiot light?...or something that can be monitored by an in-dash analog gauge?

And...56Speedster: I'm not about to mess around with that oil pressure relief cap AGAIN. I've used up my 2012 quota of oaths and curses on it!!

Carl, replacing the drain plate plug with a plug/sending unit combo will work fine if you don't have a larger sump installed.  I had one on my near stock 1600 for years and never damaged it.  If you have a deep sump I'd go with installing a sending unit in the oil port, which is where I have mine now.
